Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”

Some Pharisees came to test Jesus. They asked,“ Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife?”

And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”

Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question:“ Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife?”

And some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing Him, and began questioning Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce his wife.

They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. (niv)

Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin.“ What are we accomplishing?” they asked.“ Here is this man performing many signs. (niv)

The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering such things about him. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest him. (niv)

“ Be careful,” Jesus warned them.“ Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.” (niv)

Then the disciples came to him and asked,“ Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?” (niv)

But the Pharisees said,“ It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.” (niv)

“ The man who hates and divorces his wife,” says the Lord, the God of Israel,“ does violence to the one he should protect,” says the Lord Almighty. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful. (niv)

But the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that anyone who found out where Jesus was should report it so that they might arrest him. (niv)

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples,“ Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” (niv)
