僕人和警衛因為天冷生了炭火，站在那裏取暖；彼得也同他們站着取暖。

那時，祭司長和百姓的長老聚集在那稱為該亞法的大祭司的院裏。

西門‧彼得正站着取暖，有人對他說：「你不也是他的門徒嗎？」彼得不承認，說：「我不是。」

西門‧彼得跟着耶穌，另一個門徒也跟着；那門徒是大祭司所認識的，他就同耶穌進了大祭司的院子。彼得卻站在門外。大祭司所認識的那個門徒出來，對看門的使女說了一聲，就領彼得進去。

耶穌非常痛苦焦慮，禱告更加懇切，汗如大血點滴在地上。〕

彼得說：「雖然眾人跌倒，但我不會。」耶穌對他說：「我實在告訴你，今天夜裏，雞叫兩遍以前，你要三次不認我。」彼得卻極力地說：「我就是必須和你同死，也絕不會不認你。」所有的門徒都是這樣說。

見彼得取暖，就看着他，說：「你素來也是同拿撒勒人耶穌一起的。」彼得卻不承認，說：「我不知道，也不明白你說的是甚麼！」於是他出來，到了前院，雞就叫了。

以利亞聽見，就用外衣蒙臉，出來站在洞口。聽啊，有聲音向他說：「以利亞，你在這裏做甚麼？」

他在那裏進了一個洞，在洞中過夜。看哪，耶和華的話臨到他，說：「以利亞，你在這裏做甚麼？」

彼得遠遠地跟着耶穌，直到大祭司的院子，進到裏面，就和警衛同坐，要看結局怎樣。

總要警醒禱告，免得陷入試探。你們心靈固然願意，肉體卻軟弱了。」

他們在院子中間生了火，一同坐着，彼得也坐在他們當中。有一個使女看見彼得面向火光坐着，就定睛看他，說：「這個人素來也是同那人一起的。」

有些希伯來人過了約旦河，逃到迦得和基列地。掃羅還在吉甲，所有的人都戰戰兢兢地跟隨他。
