After a little while, those standing near said to Peter,“ Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”He began to call down curses, and he swore to them,“ I don’t know this man you’re talking about.”Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him:“ Before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times.” And he broke down and wept. (niv)

Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. (niv)

But the Jewish leaders incited the God- fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. (niv)

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples,“ How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again,“ Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other,“ Who then can be saved?”Jesus looked at them and said,“ With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” (niv)

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them:“ Rulers and elders of the people!If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed,then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.Jesus is“‘ the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
