The Lord had given the Law through Moses. He wanted the Israelites to obey it. It is written there that they were supposed to live in booths during the Feast of Booths. That feast was celebrated in the seventh month.

『你要告訴以色列人說；七月十五日是住棚節，要給永恆主守這節七天。

『你從禾場上和酒池中收藏了出產物以後、就要舉行住棚節七天。過節的時候、你要歡樂，你跟你兒子和女兒、你的奴僕和使女、以及在你城內的利未人、寄居者、孤兒、寡婦、都要歡樂。你要在永恆主所要選擇的地方、過節拜永恆主你的上帝；因為永恆主你的上帝在你一切的出產上、和你手裏辦的一切事上、必賜福與你，你就要痛痛快快地歡樂。

頭一天你們要拿美麗之樹的果子、和棕樹枝、茂密樹的枝條跟谿谷間的楊柳條，在永恆主你們的上帝面前歡樂七天。每年七月間、你們要向永恆主守為節期七天：這要做你們世世代代永遠的條例；在七月間你們要守這節。你們要住在樹枝棚子裏七天；凡在以色列中的本地人都要住在樹枝棚子裏，好叫你們世世代代知道我領以色列人出埃及地的時候、曾使他們住在樹枝棚子裏；我永恆主你們的上帝。』

那時猶太人的節期、住棚節、近了。

雅各呢、他也起身前行、往疏割去，為自己建造房屋，又為牲畜搭草棚。因此給那地方起名叫疏割。

列國中一切殘存的人、從前曾來攻擊耶路撒冷的、將來必年年上來敬拜至大的王、萬軍之永恆主，並守住棚之節。將來地上的萬族中、凡不上耶路撒冷來敬拜至大的王、萬軍之永恆主的、必沒有霖雨降在他們地上。埃及族若不上來，若不來朝，那麼在他們身上就必有永恆主所用來擊打列國人的疫症：因為那些列國人不上來守住棚之節。這必作為埃及的罪罰，和所有不上來守住棚節的列國人的罪罰。
