按着宗族，西缅的众子：属尼母利的，有尼母利族；属雅悯的，有雅悯族；属雅斤的，有雅斤族；属谢拉的，有谢拉族；属扫罗的，有扫罗族。这就是西缅的各族，共有二万二千二百名。

约瑟转身离开他们，哭了一场，又回来对他们说话，就从他们中间抓了西缅，在他们眼前捆绑他。

到第三天，他们正疼痛的时候，雅各的两个儿子，就是底拿的哥哥西缅和利未，各拿刀剑，不动声色地来到城中，把所有的男丁都杀了，又用刀杀了哈抹和他儿子示剑，把底拿从示剑家里带走，就离开了。雅各的儿子们因为他们的妹妹受污辱，就来到被杀的人那里，洗劫那城，夺走了他们的羊群、牛群和驴，以及城里和田间所有的；又俘掳抢劫他们一切的财物、孩童、妇女，以及房屋中所有的。雅各对西缅和利未说：“你们连累了我，使我在这地的居民中，就是在迦南人和比利洗人中坏了名声。我的人丁稀少，他们必聚集来击杀我，我和全家的人都要被灭绝。”
