“ Speak to the Israelites and get twelve staffs from them, one from the leader of each of their ancestral tribes. Write the name of each man on his staff.

“ Speak to the Israelites. Get 12 walking sticks from them. Get one from the leader of each of Israel’s tribes. Write the name of each man on his walking stick.

“ Speak to the people of Israel, and get from them staffs, one for each fathers’ house, from all their chiefs according to their fathers’ houses, twelve staffs. Write each man’s name on his staff,

“ Tell the people of Israel to bring you twelve wooden staffs, one from each leader of Israel’s ancestral tribes, and inscribe each leader’s name on his staff.

“ Speak to the Israelites and take one staff from them for each ancestral tribe, twelve staffs from all the leaders of their tribes. Write each man’s name on his staff.

“ Speak to the sons of Israel, and obtain from them a staff for each father’s household: twelve staffs, from all their leaders for their fathers’ households. You shall write each man’s name on his staff,

“ Speak to the children of Israel, and get from them a rod from each father’s house, all their leaders according to their fathers’ houses— twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod.

“ Speak to the Israelites, and receive from them a staff from each tribe, one from every tribal leader, twelve staffs; you must write each man’s name on his staff.

“ Speak to the children of Israel, and take rods from them, one for each fathers’ house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod.

Fire spread from one of its main branches and consumed its fruit. No strong branch is left on it fit for a ruler’s scepter.’“ This is a lament and is to be used as a lament.” (niv)

The divisions of the camp of Judah went first, under their standard. Nahshon son of Amminadab was in command.Nethanel son of Zuar was over the division of the tribe of Issachar,and Eliab son of Helon was over the division of the tribe of Zebulun.Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonites and Merarites, who carried it, set out.The divisions of the camp of Reuben went next, under their standard. Elizur son of Shedeur was in command.Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai was over the division of the tribe of Simeon,and Eliasaph son of Deuel was over the division of the tribe of Gad.Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things. The tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived.The divisions of the camp of Ephraim went next, under their standard. Elishama son of Ammihud was in command.Gamaliel son of Pedahzur was over the division of the tribe of Manasseh,and Abidan son of Gideoni was over the division of the tribe of Benjamin.Finally, as the rear guard for all the units, the divisions of the camp of Dan set out under their standard. Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai was in command.Pagiel son of Okran was over the division of the tribe of Asher,and Ahira son of Enan was over the division of the tribe of Naphtali. (niv)

Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock of your inheritance, which lives by itself in a forest, in fertile pasturelands. Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead as in days long ago. (niv)

“‘ Testing will surely come. And what if even the scepter, which the sword despises, does not continue? declares the Sovereign Lord.’ (niv)

But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it.” (niv)

These are the names of the men who are to assist you: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab;from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar;from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon;from the sons of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur;from Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;from Asher, Pagiel son of Okran;from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel;from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.”These were the men appointed from the community, the leaders of their ancestral tribes. They were the heads of the clans of Israel. (niv)

Then the Lord said to him,“ What is that in your hand?”“ A staff,” he replied. (niv)

The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil. (niv)

The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying,“ Rule in the midst of your enemies!” (niv)

sharpened for the slaughter, polished to flash like lightning!“‘ Shall we rejoice in the scepter of my royal son? The sword despises every such stick. (niv)

On the east, toward the sunrise, the divisions of the camp of Judah are to encamp under their standard. The leader of the people of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab.His division numbers 74,600.The tribe of Issachar will camp next to them. The leader of the people of Issachar is Nethanel son of Zuar.His division numbers 54,400.The tribe of Zebulun will be next. The leader of the people of Zebulun is Eliab son of Helon.His division numbers 57,400.All the men assigned to the camp of Judah, according to their divisions, number 186,400. They will set out first.On the south will be the divisions of the camp of Reuben under their standard. The leader of the people of Reuben is Elizur son of Shedeur.His division numbers 46,500.The tribe of Simeon will camp next to them. The leader of the people of Simeon is Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.His division numbers 59,300.The tribe of Gad will be next. The leader of the people of Gad is Eliasaph son of Deuel.His division numbers 45,650.All the men assigned to the camp of Reuben, according to their divisions, number 151,450. They will set out second.Then the tent of meeting and the camp of the Levites will set out in the middle of the camps. They will set out in the same order as they encamp, each in their own place under their standard.On the west will be the divisions of the camp of Ephraim under their standard. The leader of the people of Ephraim is Elishama son of Ammihud.His division numbers 40,500.The tribe of Manasseh will be next to them. The leader of the people of Manasseh is Gamaliel son of Pedahzur.His division numbers 32,200.The tribe of Benjamin will be next. The leader of the people of Benjamin is Abidan son of Gideoni.His division numbers 35,400.All the men assigned to the camp of Ephraim, according to their divisions, number 108,100. They will set out third.On the north will be the divisions of the camp of Dan under their standard. The leader of the people of Dan is Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.His division numbers 62,700.The tribe of Asher will camp next to them. The leader of the people of Asher is Pagiel son of Okran.His division numbers 41,500.The tribe of Naphtali will be next. The leader of the people of Naphtali is Ahira son of Enan.His division numbers 53,400. (niv)

“ Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it,‘ Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick of wood, and write on it,‘ Belonging to Joseph( that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him.’Join them together into one stick so that they will become one in your hand.“ When your people ask you,‘ Won’t you tell us what you mean by this?’say to them,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am going to take the stick of Joseph— which is in Ephraim’s hand— and of the Israelite tribes associated with him, and join it to Judah’s stick. I will make them into a single stick of wood, and they will become one in my hand.’Hold before their eyes the sticks you have written on (niv)

The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his. (niv)
