以色列人為了繞過以東，便從何珥山出發，沿通往紅海的路行進。途中，民眾心裡煩躁，

They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way;

The Israelites traveled from Mount Hor along the way to the Red Sea. They wanted to go around Edom. But they grew tired on the way.

From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. And the people became impatient on the way.

後來，他們走過曠野，繞過以東和摩押，到了摩押的東邊，在摩押的邊界亞嫩河東岸紮營，並沒有進入摩押境內。

摩西把這番話轉告百姓，可是他們因為殘酷的勞役無比沮喪，不肯聽他的話。

以色列人從何珥山啟行，至撒摩拿紮營；

你們為何使以色列人軍心動搖，不敢進入耶和華所賜之地？

他們到以實各谷打探那地方，回來後竟動搖軍心，使以色列人不敢進入耶和華所賜之地。

由於亞瑪力人和迦南人住在山谷中，明天你們要轉回，沿紅海的路前往曠野。」

不要惹他們，因為我已把西珥山賜給以掃作產業，他們的土地，我一寸也不會賜給你們。你們吃的、喝的，都要花錢向他們買。你們的上帝耶和華使你們凡事蒙福，看顧著你們走過這遼闊的曠野，四十年來與你們同在，使你們一無所缺。』「於是，我們繞過我們親屬以掃的子孫所住的西珥，沿亞拉巴的路，經過以拉他、以旬·迦別，向摩押曠野走去。

摩西遵命而行。他們三人就當著全體會眾的面上了何珥山。

以東王卻說：「你們不可從我這裡經過，否則我必兵戎相見。」以色列人說：「我們只走大路，倘若我們和牲畜喝了你的水，我們會付錢。我們別無他求，只求步行穿過貴國。」但以東王仍然不准，還率領大軍嚴陣以待。由於無法從以東穿過，以色列人只好繞道。以色列全體會眾從加低斯出發，來到何珥山。耶和華在位於以東邊界的何珥山對摩西和亞倫說：

免得有人因遭受這些患難而動搖，因為你們知道我們必遭受患難。我們在你們那裡時曾預先告訴過你們，我們會遭遇患難，你們知道後來果然如此。

堅固各地門徒的信心，鼓勵他們要持守信仰，並且說：「我們在進入上帝國的道路上必經歷許多苦難。」

而你們要掉頭，沿紅海的路回到曠野。』
