But God told Balaam,“ Do not go with them. You are not to curse these people, for they have been blessed!”

上帝曰、爾勿偕往、亦勿詛民、蓋斯民受祝矣、

天主諭巴蘭曰、毋偕之往、毋詛斯民、因斯民已蒙福矣、

But God said to Balaam,“ Do not go with them. You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed.”

I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.

Don’t you remember, my people, how King Balak of Moab tried to have you cursed and how Balaam son of Beor blessed you instead? And remember your journey from Acacia Grove to Gilgal, when I, the Lord, did everything I could to teach you about my faithfulness.”

But the Lord your God refused to listen to Balaam. He turned the intended curse into a blessing because the Lord your God loves you.

Yes, joyful are those who live like this! Joyful indeed are those whose God is the Lord.

Then Balaam said to Balak,“ Stand here by your burnt offerings, and I will go to see if the Lord will respond to me. Then I will tell you whatever he reveals to me.” So Balaam went alone to the top of a bare hill,

David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it:“ Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight.

God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?Listen, I received a command to bless; God has blessed, and I cannot reverse it!

Then King Balak told him,“ Come with me to another place. There you will see another part of the nation of Israel, but not all of them. Curse at least that many!”So Balak took Balaam to the plateau of Zophim on Pisgah Peak. He built seven altars there and offered a young bull and a ram on each altar.Then Balaam said to the king,“ Stand here by your burnt offerings while I go over there to meet the Lord.”

“ This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name thatI will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies.And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed— all because you have obeyed me.”

Just then, as Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him this message:“ Leave that innocent man alone. I suffered through a terrible nightmare about him last night.”

No curse can touch Jacob; no magic has any power against Israel. For now it will be said of Jacob,‘ What wonders God has done for Israel!’

For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.

But stay here one more night, and I will see if the Lord has anything else to say to me.”That night God came to Balaam and told him,“ Since these men have come for you, get up and go with them. But do only what I tell you to do.”

He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds.He whispers in their ears and terrifies them with warnings.He makes them turn from doing wrong; he keeps them from pride.

How blessed you are, O Israel! Who else is like you, a people saved by the Lord? He is your protecting shield and your triumphant sword! Your enemies will cringe before you, and you will stomp on their backs!”

But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God.
