That night God came to Balaam and said,“ Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you.”

That night God came to Balaam. He said,“ These men have come to get you. So go with them. But do only what I tell you to do.”

And God came to Balaam at night and said to him,“ If the men have come to call you, rise, go with them; but only do what I tell you.”

That night God came to Balaam and told him,“ Since these men have come for you, get up and go with them. But do only what I tell you to do.”

‘ Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the Lord— and I must say only what the Lord says’? (niv)

Balaam answered,“ Did I not tell you I must do whatever the Lord says?” (niv)

He answered,“ Must I not speak what the Lord puts in my mouth?” (niv)

The angel of the Lord said to Balaam,“ Go with the men, but speak only what I tell you.” So Balaam went with Balak’s officials. (niv)

The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. (niv)

The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lieand so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness. (niv)

Because you rage against me and because your insolence has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will make you return by the way you came. (niv)

But before they turned from what they craved, even while the food was still in their mouths,God’s anger rose against them; he put to death the sturdiest among them, cutting down the young men of Israel. (niv)

So in my anger I gave you a king, and in my wrath I took him away. (niv)

So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices. (niv)

They said to him,“ You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”But when they said,“ Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.And the Lord told him:“ Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.” (niv)

“ But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was moving against you, you said to me,‘ No, we want a king to rule over us’— even though the Lord your God was your king.Now here is the king you have chosen, the one you asked for; see, the Lord has set a king over you.If you fear the Lord and serve and obey him and do not rebel against his commands, and if both you and the king who reigns over you follow the Lord your God— good!But if you do not obey the Lord, and if you rebel against his commands, his hand will be against you, as it was against your ancestors.“ Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes!Is it not wheat harvest now? I will call on the Lord to send thunder and rain. And you will realize what an evil thing you did in the eyes of the Lord when you asked for a king.”Then Samuel called on the Lord, and that same day the Lord sent thunder and rain. So all the people stood in awe of the Lord and of Samuel.The people all said to Samuel,“ Pray to the Lord your God for your servants so that we will not die, for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king.” (niv)

The Lord put a word in Balaam’s mouth and said,“ Go back to Balak and give him this word.” (niv)

The Lord met with Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said,“ Go back to Balak and give him this word.” (niv)

Then the word of the Lord came to me:“ Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all?Therefore speak to them and tell them,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When any of the Israelites set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces and then go to a prophet, I the Lord will answer them myself in keeping with their great idolatry.I will do this to recapture the hearts of the people of Israel, who have all deserted me for their idols.’ (niv)
