他们有祸了！因为他们走该隐的道路，又为财利往巴兰的错谬里直奔，并在可拉的背叛中灭亡了。

然而，有几件事我要责备你，就是在你那里有人服从了巴兰的教训；这巴兰曾教唆巴勒将绊脚石放在以色列人面前，使他们吃祭过偶像之物，并且犯淫乱。

以色列人杀了这些人时，也用刀杀了比珥的儿子占卜的巴兰。

巴兰唱起诗歌说：“巴勒领我出亚兰，摩押王领我出东方的山脉：‘来啊，为我诅咒雅各；来啊，怒骂以色列。’

我要使你的后裔好像地上的尘沙，人若能数地上的尘沙，才能数你的后裔。

耶和华使他的百姓生养众多，使他们比敌人强盛，

他们离弃了正路，走入歧途，随从比珥的儿子巴兰的路；巴兰就是那贪爱不义的工钱的人，他却为自己的过犯受了责备，而那不能说话的驴以人的声音阻止了先知的狂妄。

在那日，百姓听到人朗读摩西的律法书，发现书上写着，亚扪人和摩押人永不可入神的会；因为他们没有拿食物和水来迎接以色列人，却雇了巴兰诅咒他们，但我们的神使那诅咒变为祝福。

然而，以色列人生养众多，繁衍昌盛，极其强盛，遍满了那地。有一位不认识约瑟的新王兴起，统治埃及。他对自己的百姓说：“看哪，以色列人的百姓比我们还多，又比我们强盛。来吧，让我们机巧地待他们，恐怕他们增多起来，将来若有战争，他们就联合我们的仇敌来攻击我们，然后离开这地去了。”
