Then Balaam said to Balak,“ Stand here by your burnt offerings, and I will go to see if the Lord will respond to me. Then I will tell you whatever he reveals to me.” So Balaam went alone to the top of a bare hill,

巴蘭謂巴勒曰、汝立於燔祭側、我且前往、庶幾耶和華臨我、其所示者、我必告爾、遂陟童山、

巴蘭謂巴勒曰、汝燔祭品、當侍於側、我將前往、如耶和華遇我、其所諭言、我必告爾。遂陟童山。

Then Balaam said to Balak,“ Stay here beside your offering while I go aside. Perhaps the Lord will come to meet with me. Whatever he reveals to me I will tell you.” Then he went off to a barren height.

Then Balaam said to Balak,“ Stay here beside your offering. I’ll go and try to find out what the Lord wants me to do. Maybe he’ll come and meet with me. Then I’ll tell you what he says to me.” So Balaam went off to a bare hilltop.

And Balaam said to Balak,“ Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go. Perhaps the Lord will come to meet me, and whatever he shows me I will tell you.” And he went to a bare height,

Then Balaam said to Balak,“ Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the Lord will come to meet me, and whatever He shows me I will tell you.” So he went to a bare hill.

Then Balaam said to Balak,“ Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the Lord will come to meet me, and whatever He shows me I will tell you.” So he went to a desolate height.

And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt- offering, and I will go: peradventure Jehovah will come to meet me; and whatsoever he showeth me I will tell thee. And he went to a bare height.

Balaam said to Balak,“ Stay here by your burnt offering while I am gone. Maybe the Lord will meet with me. I will tell you whatever He reveals to me.” So he went to a barren hill.

And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.

Balaam said to Balak,“ Station yourself by your burnt offering, and I will go off; perhaps the LORD will come to meet me, and whatever he reveals to me I will tell you.” Then he went to a deserted height.

Balaam said to Balak,“ Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go. Perhaps Yahweh will come to meet me. Whatever he shows me I will tell you.” He went to a bare height.

Then Balaam said to the king,“ Stand here by your burnt offerings while I go over there to meet the Lord.”

By now Balaam realized that the Lord was determined to bless Israel, so he did not resort to divination as before. Instead, he turned and looked out toward the wilderness,

Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and there he sacrificed as burnt offerings the animals and birds that had been approved for that purpose.

Then Jethro, Moses’ father in law, brought a burnt offering and sacrifices to God. Aaron and all the elders of Israel came out and joined him in a sacrificial meal in God’s presence.

The Lord called to Moses from the Tabernacle and said to him,

“ Take your son, your only son— yes, Isaac, whom you love so much— and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”

“ Stay here overnight,” Balaam said.“ In the morning I will tell you whatever the Lord directs me to say.” So the officials from Moab stayed there with Balaam.That night God came to Balaam and asked him,“ Who are these men visiting you?”

Isaac turned to Abraham and said,“ Father?”“ Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.“ We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said,“ but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?”“ God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.

Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son.

Then the Lord opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the roadway with a drawn sword in his hand. Balaam bowed his head and fell face down on the ground before him.“ Why did you beat your donkey those three times?” the angel of the Lord demanded.“ Look, I have come to block your way because you are stubbornly resisting me.Three times the donkey saw me and shied away; otherwise, I would certainly have killed you by now and spared the donkey.”Then Balaam confessed to the angel of the Lord,“ I have sinned. I didn’t realize you were standing in the road to block my way. I will return home if you are against my going.”But the angel of the Lord told Balaam,“ Go with these men, but say only what I tell you to say.” So Balaam went on with Balak’s officials.
