He built an altar to the LORD there and offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then the LORD was receptive to prayer for the land, and the plague on Israel ended.

Then David said to Ornan,“ Give me this threshing-floor plot so that I may build an altar to the LORD on it. Give it to me for the full price, so the plague on the people may be stopped.”

So Moses told Israel’s judges,“ Kill each of the men who aligned themselves with Baal of Peor.”

They angered the LORD with their deeds, and a plague broke out against them.But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was stopped.It was credited to him as righteousness throughout all generations to come.

“ Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the Israelites because he was zealous among them with my zeal, so that I did not destroy the Israelites in my zeal.
