“七月十日，你们要举行圣会，禁食，不可工作。

“七月初十日，你们当有圣会；要刻苦己心，什么工都不可做。

七月十日、爾當有聖會、必刻苦齋戒、無論何工、悉毋作、

“‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month hold a sacred assembly. You must deny yourselves and do no work.

“‘ On the tenth day of the seventh month, come together for a special service. You must not eat anything on that day. You must not do any work on it.

“ On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation and afflict yourselves. You shall do no work,

“ Ten days later, on the tenth day of the same month, you must call another holy assembly. On that day, the Day of Atonement, the people must go without food and must do no ordinary work.

“ You are to hold a sacred assembly on the tenth day of this seventh month and practice self-denial; do not do any work.

‘ Then on the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy assembly, and you shall humble yourselves; you shall not do any work.

‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall afflict your souls; you shall not do any work.

And on the tenth day of this seventh month ye shall have a holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall do no manner of work;

“ You are to hold a sacred assembly on the tenth day of this seventh month and practice self-denial; you must not do any work.

“‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall afflict your souls. You shall do no kind of work;

他们生病时，我披上麻衣，谦卑地为他们禁食祷告，但上帝没有垂听。

“每年七月十日，不论是你们，还是寄居在你们中间的外族人，都要禁食，停止所有工作。这是你们要永远遵守的律例。因为在这一天要为你们赎罪，使你们在耶和华面前洁净。这天是你们的安息日，你们要禁食。这是一条永远不变的律例。

我们耽误了不少日子，禁食的节期已过，航行很危险，保罗劝告众人说：

然后，我在亚哈瓦河边宣布禁食，为要在我们的上帝面前谦卑下来，祈求祂保护我们、我们的儿女及财物一路平安。

不！我告诉你们，你们若不悔改，同样也必灭亡。”

他们说，‘我们禁食，你为什么不看呢？我们刻苦己身，你为什么不理睬呢？’我说，‘看啊，禁食之日你们仍然随心所欲，压榨你们的工人。你们一面禁食，一面争闹打斗，彼此恶拳相向。不要指望这样的禁食会使你们的祷告在天上蒙垂听。难道这是我要的禁食吗？难道刻苦己身、像芦苇一样垂着头、躺在麻布和炉灰上就是禁食吗？这就是你们所谓的禁食，所谓的蒙耶和华悦纳的日子吗？

我们知道，我们的旧人已经和祂一同钉在十字架上，使辖制我们身体的罪失去力量，使我们不再做罪的奴隶。

耶和华对摩西说：“七月十日是赎罪日，你们要举行圣会，禁食，献火祭给耶和华。那是在你们的上帝耶和华面前为自己赎罪的日子，你们不可工作。那天，凡不禁食的，要将他从民中铲除；凡工作的，耶和华要毁灭他。你们不可做任何工作。不论住在哪里，你们都要世代遵守这永不改变的律例。那是你们可以完全休息的安息之日。从七月九日傍晚至次日傍晚，你们必须禁食。”

那日，万军之耶和华呼召你们哭泣哀号，剃光头发，身披麻衣。

我严格训练自己，克服自身的软弱，免得我传福音给别人，自己却被淘汰了。

不！我告诉你们，你们若不悔改，同样也必灭亡。

“我必将施恩和祷告的灵浇灌在大卫家和耶路撒冷的居民身上。他们必仰望我——他们所刺的那位，如丧独子一般为祂哀伤，如丧长子一般为祂痛哭。

含泪撒种的必欢呼着收割。含泪出去撒种的必欢呼着带回禾捆。

现在我很欢喜，当然不是因为你们忧伤而欢喜，而是看见你们因忧伤而悔改了。因为你们这样忧伤合乎上帝的心意，使你们不致因我们而受到任何损失。合乎上帝心意的忧伤会带来悔改，使人得到救恩，永不后悔，但世俗的忧伤只会带来死亡。你们看，合乎上帝心意的忧伤使你们产生了何等的迫切感啊！你们热切地辩明自己的立场，对罪愤慨，恐惧战抖，期盼与我相见，疾恶如仇，惩处罪恶。你们在各方面已显明自己在那件事上是清白的。

你们亲近上帝，上帝就必亲近你们。有罪的人啊，洗净你们的手吧！三心二意的人啊，洁净你们的心吧！你们要悲伤、忧愁、痛哭，转欢笑为悲哀，变欢乐为愁苦。你们要在主面前谦卑，祂必擢升你们。

他们问万军之耶和华殿里的祭司和先知：“我们还要照多年的惯例在五月哀伤、禁食吗？”

哀痛的人有福了，因为他们必得安慰。
