From the Israelites’ half, Moses selected one out of every fifty people and animals, as the Lord commanded him, and gave them to the Levites, who were responsible for the care of the Lord’s tabernacle.

Moses chose one out of every 50 people and animals. He gave them to the Levites. They were accountable for taking care of the Lord’ s holy tent. Moses did just as the Lord had commanded him.

我勸兄弟尊師、彼宗主為爾服勞、治爾誨爾、當念其行、敬而愛之、亦當相睦、

民之戍卒、目眯不明、守夜之犬、喑不能吠、或偃卧、或假寐。彼甚饕餮、不知饜足、譬彼愚蠢之牧人、無一不縱己欲、不顧私利。

穀與油及酒、所應輸之什一、或牛羊之首生、所許願樂輸、舉而獻之禮物、俱不可食於爾家、惟於爾上帝耶和華所簡之處、爾與子女僕婢、及主爾家之利未人、咸必食之、無論所為之事、爾必欣喜歡忭於爾上帝耶和華前。爾居斯土、至於畢生、必當謹恪、勿遺利未人。

利未人於會幕中、供其役事、故我於以色列族之土產、什取其一、錫為恆業。自是以後。以色列族不可近會幕恐負罪愆、至於死亡。利未人在會幕、供其役事、如有干犯、必負罪愆、惟於以色列中、不得土壤為業、著為永例、歷世勿替。以色列人十輸其一、舉而獻我者、我必賜之為利未人嗣業、外此則無恆業。○

耶和華之僕、在彼室中、供其役事、永夕弗替、當頌讚之兮、

厥後、主又立七十人、耦而遣之、先於其所欲往諸邑諸地、曰、穡多工少、宜求穡主、遣工力穡也、往哉、我遣爾、似羔入狼群、勿攜囊、勿袋、勿履、途中勿與人施禮、入人家、則曰、斯家福兮、倘居人宜福、則爾所禱之福臨之、不然、則歸爾矣、居其家、所供者飲食之、蓋工得其值、宜也、勿由此室移彼室、入邑而人接爾、則食其所陳者、
