不可叩拜他們的神明，不可供奉它們，也不可效法他們的行為，要徹底拆毀神像，打碎他們的神柱。

「你們不可為自己製造偶像，不可豎立神像和神柱，也不可在你們境內安放祭拜用的石像。我是你們的上帝耶和華。

當你們的上帝耶和華把他們交在你們手裡、使你們打敗他們後，你們必須徹底毀滅他們。不可與他們立約，不可憐憫他們。不可與他們通婚，不可讓你們的兒女與他們的兒女通婚，因為他們會讓你們的兒女離棄耶和華去拜其他神明，以致耶和華向你們發怒，迅速毀滅你們。你們要拆毀他們的祭壇，打碎他們的神柱，砍下他們的亞舍拉神像，焚燒他們的偶像。

你們的上帝耶和華將把你們附近各族的城邑賜給你們，你們要將裡面有氣息的全部消滅。要遵照你們的上帝耶和華的吩咐，徹底滅絕赫人、亞摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人，免得他們將祭拜自己神明的可憎習俗傳給你們，以致你們得罪你們的上帝耶和華。

我給你定下國界，從紅海到非利士海岸，從曠野到幼發拉底河。我要把其中所有的人都交在你手中，你要把他們全部趕出去。不可跟這些民族及其神明立約，也不可讓這些民族住在你的土地上，免得他們使你得罪我，你若供奉他們的神明，必因此而陷入網羅。」

你們不可跟這裡的居民立約，要毀掉他們的祭壇。』可是你們為什麼不聽呢？

他們沒有照耶和華的命令消滅外族人，反倒與他們混居，仿效他們的習俗，拜他們的神像，陷入網羅。

「你們趕走那裡的列邦後，要徹底摧毀他們在高山上、丘陵上、綠樹下供奉其神明的地方。你們要拆毀他們的祭壇，打碎他們的神柱，焚燒他們的亞舍拉神像，砍倒他們的偶像，使它們的名字從那裡消失。

你要謹慎，到了目的地後，不可與當地的居民立約，免得因此而陷入網羅。相反，要拆掉他們的祭壇，打碎他們的神柱，砍掉他們的亞舍拉神像。不可拜別的神明，因為耶和華是痛恨不貞的上帝，祂名為『痛恨不貞』。」「不可與當地的居民立約，免得他們與自己的神明苟合時邀請你，你就吃他們的祭物，給兒子娶他們的女兒為妻，以致她們與自己的神明苟合時誘使你的兒子犯同樣的罪。「不可為自己鑄造神像。

你們要燒毀他們的神像，不可貪圖神像上的金銀，不可將那些金銀據為己有，免得你們因此陷入網羅；因為那是你們的上帝耶和華所憎惡的。不可把可憎之物帶到家裡，否則你們會像它們一樣被毀滅。你們要極其憎惡、厭棄它們，因為它們是當毀滅之物。

不可與你們中間剩下的異族混雜，不可提他們的神明或憑它們起誓，不可供奉、祭拜他們的神明。

那時，你們要謹慎，不可受誘惑去效法他們的習俗，不可打聽他們神明的事，說，『這些民族怎樣供奉他們的神明呢？我也要效法。』你們不可按照他們的方式敬拜你們的上帝耶和華。他們祭拜自己神明的種種行為令耶和華憎惡，他們甚至焚燒自己的兒女獻給他們的神明。

以色列人殺了城內的人，一個沒留。約書亞放火燒了夏瑣。約書亞攻佔了諸王所有的城池，擒獲諸王。他照耶和華的僕人摩西的吩咐，將諸王全部殺死，毀掉城池。
