他們的神你不可敬拜，不可事奉，也不可按他們行為的樣子行，卻要把神像盡行翻毁，一概打碎他們的崇拜柱子。

『你們不可給自己作偶相，不可給自己立雕像和柱像，也不可在你們境內安上鏨像的石頭去跪拜；因為我永恆主是你們的上帝。

永恆主你的上帝將他們交在你面前去擊敗的時候，你務要把他們都盡行殺滅歸神；不可和他們立約，也不可恩待他們。不可和他們結親；不可將你的女兒嫁給他們的兒子，也不可使你的兒子娶他們的女兒。因為他會使你的兒子偏離、而不跟從我，反而去事奉別的神，以致永恆主向你們發怒，而迅速消滅你們。但是你們卻要這樣待他們：他們的祭壇你們要拆毁，他們崇拜的柱子你們要打碎，他們的亞舍拉神木、你們要砍下，他們的雕像你們要用火去燒。

只是永恆主你的上帝所賜給你以為業的這些別族之民的城市中、凡有氣息的、一個你也不要讓他活着；只要將他們盡行殺滅歸神，將赫人、亞摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人、都殺滅淨盡，照永恆主你的上帝所吩咐你的，免得他們教導你們去習行一切可厭惡的事，就是他們向自己的神所行的，以致你們犯罪得罪了永恆主你的上帝。

我必定你的境界，從蘆葦海直到非利士海，從曠野直到大河。我必將那地的居民交在你手中，使你將他們從你面前趕出去。不可跟他們和他們的神立約。別讓他們住在你的地上，恐怕他們使你犯罪敵擋我；你若事奉他們的神，這就會餌誘你入於網羅。』

你們呢、也不可和這地的居民立約；他們的祭壇你們要拆毁。」你們竟沒有聽我的話；為甚麼你們這樣行呢？

他們不照永恆主所吩咐他們的、去消滅外族之民，反而和外國人混雜嫁娶，學習他們的行為，事奉他們的偶像：這就成了餌誘自己的網羅。

凡你所要趕出的列國人事奉他們的神的各地方、無論是在高山、是在山岡、或是在各茂盛樹下、你們都要徹底毁壞；也要拆毁他們的祭壇，打碎他們的崇拜柱子；他們的亞舍拉神木、你們要用火去燒，他們的神的雕像你們要砍下來，要從那地方除滅他的名。

你要小心、不可和你所去到的那地的居民立約，恐怕那會餌誘你入於網羅。他們的祭壇你們要拆毁，他們的崇拜柱子你們要打碎，他們的亞舍拉神木、你們要砍下來，（不可拜別的神，因為那名為忌邪者永恆主是忌邪的上帝），恐怕你和那地的居民立約，眾民就變節去服事他們的神，獻祭給他們的神，若有人請你，你便喫他的祭物，恐怕你給你的兒子娶他們的女兒為妻，而兒子的女兒又變節去服事他們的神，便使你的子孫都變節去服事他們的神。『不可為自己造鑄像的神。

他們的神的雕像、你們要用火去燒；那上頭的金銀、你不可貪愛，也不可取為己有，免得你因此而陷入網羅；這原是永恆主你的上帝所厭惡的。可憎惡的東西你不可帶進家裏，以免使你成了該被毁滅歸神的、像那東西一樣；你要絕對憎它，非常厭惡它，因為那是該被毁滅歸神的。

不可和你們中間剩下的這些國的人攙雜通婚；他們的神的名、你們不可提；不可指着來起誓；不可事奉他們，不可跪拜他們，

那時你要謹慎、不可在他們被消滅了之後去隨從他、而陷入網羅，也不可尋問他們的神說：「這些列國人怎樣事奉他們的神呢，我也要照樣地行。」你向永恆主你的上帝可不要這樣行，因為他們向他們的神行了永恆主所恨惡一切可厭惡的事，甚至將他們的兒女燒在火中、去獻給他們的神。

以色列人用刀擊殺了城中一切人口，將他們盡行殺滅歸神；凡有氣息的沒有留下一個；也用火焚燒夏瑣。這些王所有的城、和這些城所有的王、約書亞都攻取了；他用刀擊殺了他們，將他們盡行殺滅歸神，是照永恆主的僕人摩西所吩咐的。
