摩西向海伸手，永恆主便終夜用極強的東風使海退去；他使海成了旱地；水也裂開了。以色列人下海中、在乾地上走；水在他們左右兩邊就像牆一樣。埃及人直追趕着：法老所有的馬匹和車輛馬兵、都跟着以色列人下海中去。晨更時候，永恆主在火柱雲柱中往下眺望埃及人的營，就使埃及人的營潰亂了。又纏住他們的車輪，使車行走重難，以致埃及人說：『我們從以色列人面前逃跑吧；因為永恆主為他們爭戰、攻打埃及人了。』永恆主對摩西說：『你向海伸手，叫水回到埃及人身上、到他們的車輛和馬兵身上。』摩西就向海伸手；天快亮時候，海水回到原流的分量；埃及人逆流逃跑，永恆主把埃及人都抖在海中。水一回流，淹沒了車輛和馬兵、以及法老的全軍，那些跟着以色列人下海裏去的，連一個也沒有剩下。以色列人卻在海中走乾地；水在他們左右兩邊就像牆一樣。當那日、永恆主拯救了以色列人脫離埃及人的手；以色列人看見埃及人都死在海邊。以色列人看見永恆主向埃及人所顯大能的手，其眾民就敬畏永恆主，信服永恆主和他的僕人摩西。

摩西領着以色列人從蘆葦海往前行；他們出去到書珥的曠野，在曠野走了三天，找不着水。到了瑪拉，他們不能喝瑪拉的水，因為水苦，因此那地方名叫瑪拉。人民就向摩西發怨言說：『我們喝甚麼？』摩西向永恆主哀叫，永恆主將一棵樹指給他看；他把那樹木丟在水裏，水就變甜了。永恆主在那裏為他們立了律例典章，在那裏試驗了他們，說：『你若留心聽永恆主你的上帝的聲音，行他眼中看為對的事，側耳聽他的誡命，守他一切的律例，那麼我加在埃及人身上的一切疾病、我就不加在你身上，因為我永恆主乃是醫治你的。』
