“如果有人在耶和華的聖物上不忠實，無意犯了罪，他就要依照你按著聖所衡量銀子標準所估的銀價，把他的贖愆祭牲，就是羊群中一隻沒有殘疾的公綿羊，牽到耶和華面前作贖愆祭。

贖罪祭怎樣，贖愆祭也怎樣；兩個祭的律例相同；祭物要歸主持贖罪的祭司，

我向你承認我的罪，沒有隱藏我的罪孽；我說：“我要向耶和華承認我的過犯”；你就赦免我的罪孽。（細拉）

他犯了罪，有了罪，就應歸還他所搶奪的，或是欺壓得來的，或是別人寄存在他那裡的，或是他拾去的失物，或是他因起假誓所得的任何東西；在賠過的時候，他除了按原數償還外，必須另外加上五分之一，交給原主；還要照著你的估價，把贖愆祭牲，就是從羊群中取一隻沒有殘疾的公綿羊，牽到耶和華面前，給祭司作贖愆祭。祭司在耶和華面前，為他所行的任何一件過失贖罪，他就蒙赦免。”（本章第1~7節在《馬索拉文本》為5:20~26）

我們若說自己沒有罪，就是自欺，真理就不在我們裡面了。我們若承認自己的罪，神是信實的、公義的，必定赦免我們的罪，潔淨我們脫離一切不義。我們若說自己沒有犯過罪，就是把神當作說謊的，他的道就不在我們心裡了。
