爾之遭禍、何其甚哉、如盜賊夜至、必饜其所欲而後已、如摘葡萄、必有所遺、

若賊盜夜至、豈不竊至意足而後已乎、或作若有賊至或有夜盜來竊不過滿願為止摘葡萄者若至、豈無有所遺乎、爾遭翦絕、何其甚哉、

“ If thieves came to you, if robbers in the night— oh, what a disaster awaits you!— would they not steal only as much as they wanted? If grape pickers came to you, would they not leave a few grapes?

“ Edom, suppose robbers came to you at night. They would steal only as much as they wanted. Suppose grape pickers came to harvest your vines. They would still leave a few grapes. But you are facing horrible trouble!

If thieves came to you, if plunderers came by night— how you have been destroyed!— would they not steal only enough for themselves? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave gleanings?

“ If thieves came at night and robbed you( what a disaster awaits you!), they would not take everything. Those who harvest grapes always leave a few for the poor. But your enemies will wipe you out completely!

If thieves came to you, if marauders by night— how ravaged you would be!— wouldn’t they steal only what they wanted? If grape harvesters came to you, wouldn’t they leave a few grapes?

“ If thieves came to you, If robbers by night— Oh how you will be ruined!— Would they not steal only until they had enough? If grape pickers came to you, Would they not leave some gleanings?

“ If thieves had come to you, If robbers by night— Oh, how you will be cut off!— Would they not have stolen till they had enough? If grape-gatherers had come to you, Would they not have left some gleanings?

If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night( how art thou cut off!), would they not steal only till they had enough? if grape- gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes?

If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night,( how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave[ some] grapes?

“ If thieves came to rob you during the night, they would steal only as much as they wanted! If grape pickers came to harvest your vineyards, they would leave some behind for the poor! But you will be totally destroyed!

“ If thieves came to you, if robbers by night— oh, what disaster awaits you— wouldn’t they only steal until they had enough? If grape pickers came to you, wouldn’t they leave some gleaning grapes?

If grape pickers came to you, would they not leave a few grapes? If thieves came during the night, would they not steal only as much as they wanted? (niv)

When you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, do not go over the vines again. Leave what remains for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow. (niv)

Yet some gleanings will remain, as when an olive tree is beaten, leaving two or three olives on the topmost branches, four or five on the fruitful boughs,” declares the Lord, the God of Israel. (niv)

So will it be on the earth and among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, or as when gleanings are left after the grape harvest. (niv)

Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry:“‘ Woe! Woe to you, great city, you mighty city of Babylon! In one hour your doom has come!’ (niv)

“ A gazelle lies slain on your heights, Israel. How the mighty have fallen! (niv)

How broken and shattered is the hammer of the whole earth! How desolate is Babylon among the nations! (niv)

This is the city of revelry that lived in safety. She said to herself,“ I am the one! And there is none besides me.” What a ruin she has become, a lair for wild beasts! All who pass by her scoff and shake their fists. (niv)

How deserted lies the city, once so full of people! How like a widow is she, who once was great among the nations! She who was queen among the provinces has now become a slave. (niv)

How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! (niv)

What misery is mine! I am like one who gathers summer fruit at the gleaning of the vineyard; there is no cluster of grapes to eat, none of the early figs that I crave. (niv)
