然以愛故寧求爾、如一老邁之保羅、今且為基督耶穌之囚、

然爾我素相愛、與其命爾、不如求爾、蓋我保羅今老矣、而為耶穌基督囚、

然以愛故、寧求爾、蓋我保羅已老矣、今因耶穌基督被囚、

惟為成全愛德、寧以勸勉出之。我葆樂已龍鍾老矣；今且為基督耶穌之故、而遭受禁錮；

yet I prefer to appeal to you on the basis of love. It is as none other than Paul— an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus—

yet for love’s sake I prefer to appeal to you— I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus—

But because of our love, I prefer simply to ask you. Consider this as a request from me— Paul, an old man and now also a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus.

I appeal to you, instead, on the basis of love. I, Paul, as an elderly man and now also as a prisoner of Christ Jesus,

yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you— since I am such a person as Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus—

yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you— being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ—

yet for love’s sake I rather beseech, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now a prisoner also of Christ Jesus:

I appeal to you, instead, on the basis of love. I, Paul, as an elderly man and now also as a prisoner of Christ Jesus,

Yet for love’s sake I rather beseech[ thee], being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

I would rather appeal to you on the basis of love– I, Paul, an old man and even now a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus–

yet for love’s sake I rather beg, being such a one as Paul, the aged, but also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

I am a prisoner because of the Lord. So I am asking you to live a life worthy of what God chose you for.

Brothers and sisters, God has shown you his mercy. So I am asking you to offer up your bodies to him while you are still alive. Your bodies are a holy sacrifice that is pleasing to God. When you offer your bodies to God, you are worshiping him in the right way.

So we are Christ’s official messengers. It is as if God were making his appeal through us. Here is what Christ wants us to beg you to do. Come back to God!

Gray hair is a glorious crown. You get it by living the right way.

Don’t push me away when I’m old. Don’t desert me when my strength is gone.

I will continue to carry you even when you are old. I will take good care of you even when your hair is gray. I have made you, and I will carry you. I will take care of you, and I will save you. I am the Lord.

God, don’t leave me even when I’m old and have gray hair. Let me live to tell my children about your power. Let me tell all of them about your mighty acts.

I, Paul, am writing this letter. I am a prisoner because of Christ Jesus. Our brother Timothy joins me in writing. Philemon, we are sending you this letter. You are our dear friend. You work together with us.We are also sending it to our sister Apphia and to Archippus. He is a soldier of Christ together with us. And we are sending it to the church that meets in your home.May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.I always thank my God when I remember you in my prayers.That’s because I hear about your love for all God’s people. I also hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus.I pray that what we share by believing will help you understand even more. Then you will completely understand every good thing we share by believing in Christ.Your love has given me great joy. It has encouraged me. This is how I make my appeal to you for my son Onesimus. He became a son to me while I was being held in chains.Before that, he was useless to you. But now he has become useful to you and to me.I’m sending Onesimus back to you. All my love for him goes with him.I’m being held in chains because of the good news. So I would have liked to keep Onesimus with me. And he could take your place in helping me.But I didn’t want to do anything unless you agreed. Any favor you do must be done because you want to do it, not because you have to.Onesimus was separated from you for a little while. Maybe that was so you could have him back forever.You could have him back not as a slave. Instead, he would be better than a slave. He would be a dear brother. He is very dear to me but even more dear to you. He is dear to you not only as another human being. He is also dear to you as a brother in the Lord.Do you think of me as a believer who works together with you? Then welcome Onesimus as you would welcome me.Has he done anything wrong to you? Does he owe you anything? Then charge it to me.I’ll pay it back. I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I won’t even mention that you owe me your life.My brother, we both belong to the Lord. So I wish I could receive some benefit from you. Renew my heart. We know that Christ is the one who really renews it.I’m sure you will obey. So I’m writing to you. I know you will do even more than I ask.There is one more thing. Have a guest room ready for me. I hope I can return to all of you in answer to your prayers.Epaphras sends you greetings. Dear friends, you are outsiders and those who wander in this world. So I’m asking you not to give in to your sinful desires. They fight against your soul.

I beg you to pray that I may return to you soon.

We work together with God. So we are asking you not to receive God’s grace and then do nothing with it.
