Dear friends, don’t be surprised when the fiery ordeal comes among you to test you, as if something unusual were happening to you.Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also rejoice with great joy when his glory is revealed.If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.So don’t be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, or of me his prisoner. Instead, share in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God.

It is clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment that you will be counted worthy of God’s kingdom, for which you also are suffering,since it is just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you

and everyone will see the salvation of God.

On the contrary, after we had previously suffered and were treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, we were emboldened by our God to speak the gospel of God to you in spite of great opposition.

“ I say to you, my friends, don’t fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more.But I will show you the one to fear: Fear him who has authority to throw people into hell after death. Yes, I say to you, this is the one to fear!Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight.Indeed, the hairs of your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will experience affliction for ten days. Be faithful to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Therefore, let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen.”

Whoever offers a thanksgiving sacrifice honors me, and whoever orders his conduct, I will show him the salvation of God.”

After they called in the apostles and had them flogged, they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.Then they went out from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to be treated shamefully on behalf of the Name.Every day in the temple, and in various homes, they continued teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
