Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.

A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.

A merciful person does himself good, But the cruel person does himself harm.

The merciful man does good for his own soul, But he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.

The merciful man doeth good to his own soul; But he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.

A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings disaster on himself.

God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

“ Then the King will say to those on his right,‘ Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’“ Then these righteous ones will reply,‘ Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’“ And the King will say,‘ I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.

For they oppressed the poor and left them destitute. They foreclosed on their homes.They were always greedy and never satisfied. Nothing remains of all the things they dreamed about.Nothing is left after they finish gorging themselves. Therefore, their prosperity will not endure.“ In the midst of plenty, they will run into trouble and be overcome by misery.May God give them a bellyful of trouble. May God rain down his anger upon them.

Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.The Lord protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies.The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health.“ O Lord,” I prayed,“ have mercy on me. Heal me, for I have sinned against you.”

“ If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.“ Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.Then when you call, the Lord will answer.‘ Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.“ Remove the heavy yoke of oppression. Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well watered garden, like an ever flowing spring.Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.

“‘ King Nebuchadnezzar, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Break from your wicked past and be merciful to the poor. Perhaps then you will continue to prosper.’

Greed brings grief to the whole family, but those who hate bribes will live.

Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.

Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you.Your wealth is rotting away, and your fine clothes are moth eaten rags.Your gold and silver are corroded. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh like fire. This corroded treasure you have hoarded will testify against you on the day of judgment.For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. The cries of those who harvest your fields have reached the ears of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter.

Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered.They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly.They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor.

Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full— pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself,“ Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.

I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness.

Remember this— a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure.“ For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.As the Scriptures say,“ They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.So two good things will result from this ministry of giving— the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ.And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you.

The smooth tricks of scoundrels are evil. They plot crooked schemes. They lie to convict the poor, even when the cause of the poor is just.But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.
