Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent— the Lord detests them both.

The Lord hates two things. He hates it when the guilty are set free. He also hates it when those who aren’t guilty are punished.

He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord.

Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent— both are detestable to the Lord.

Acquitting the guilty and condemning the just— both are detestable to the LORD.

One who justifies the wicked and one who condemns the righteous, Both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord.

Release Barabbas to us!”( Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again.But they kept shouting,“ Crucify him! Crucify him!”For the third time he spoke to them:“ Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.”But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed.So Pilate decided to grant their demand.He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will. Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain.Her prophets whitewash these deeds for them by false visions and lying divinations. They say,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says’— when the Lord has not spoken.The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the foreigner, denying them justice. The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him. (niv)
