It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable to search out matters that are too deep. (niv)

I will also give you rest from all your enemies.“‘ The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you:When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom.He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands.But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you.Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’”Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation. But David said to Saul,“ Who am I, and what is my family or my clan in Israel, that I should become the king’s son- in- law?”So when the time came for Merab, Saul’s daughter, to be given to David, she was given in marriage to Adriel of Meholah.Now Saul’s daughter Michal was in love with David, and when they told Saul about it, he was pleased.“ I will give her to him,” he thought,“ so that she may be a snare to him and so that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David,“ Now you have a second opportunity to become my son-in-law.”Then Saul ordered his attendants:“ Speak to David privately and say,‘ Look, the king likes you, and his attendants all love you; now become his son- in- law.’”They repeated these words to David. But David said,“ Do you think it is a small matter to become the king’s son-in-law? I’m only a poor man and little known.” (niv)

Then Amaziah said to Amos,“ Get out, you seer! Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there.Don’t prophesy anymore at Bethel, because this is the king’s sanctuary and the temple of the kingdom.”Amos answered Amaziah,“ I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore- fig trees.But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me,‘ Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ (niv)

Samuel said,“ Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel. (niv)

“ Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said,“ I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”But the Lord said to me,“ Do not say,‘ I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me,“ I have put my words in your mouth.See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” (niv)
