And when any Ephraimite who escaped said,“ Let me cross over,” the men of Gilead would say to him,“ Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said,“ No,”then they would say to him,“ Then say,‘ shibboleth’!” And he would say,“ Sibboleth,” for he could not pronounce it right. Then they would take him and kill him at the fords of the Jordan. There fell at that time forty-two thousand Ephraimites.

and he spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying,“ My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges!”

Now when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying:“ What share have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now, see to your own house, O David!” So Israel departed to their tents.

Just then all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king,“ Why have our brethren, the men of Judah, stolen you away and brought the king, his household, and all David’s men with him across the Jordan?”So all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel,“ Because the king is a close relative of ours. Why then are you angry over this matter? Have we ever eaten at the king’s expense? Or has he given us any gift?”And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said,“ We have ten shares in the king; therefore we also have more right to David than you. Why then do you despise us— were we not the first to advise bringing back our king?” Yet the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

But they held their peace and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was,“ Do not answer him.”

The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying,“ Come, let us face one another in battle.”And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as wife’; and a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.You have indeed defeated Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Glory in that, and stay at home; for why should you meddle with trouble so that you fall— you and Judah with you?”

For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:“ Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”;who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;

Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said,“ The Lord rebuke you!”
