The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but people are tested by their praise.

Fire tests silver, and heat tests gold. But people are tested by the praise they receive.

The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and a man is tested by his praise.

Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised.

As a crucible refines silver, and a smelter refines gold, so a person should refine his praise.

They had been invited as guests and went quite innocently, knowing nothing about the matter.While Absalom was offering sacrifices, he also sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, to come from Giloh, his hometown. And so the conspiracy gained strength, and Absalom’s following kept on increasing. (niv)

For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver. (niv)

When Saul saw how successful he was, he was afraid of him.But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he led them in their campaigns. (niv)
