“ Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan.You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.”So he did what the Lord had told him. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it— and die.”Elijah said to her,“ Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says:‘ The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.Some time later the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. He grew worse and worse, and finally stopped breathing.She said to Elijah,“ What do you have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin and kill my son?”“ Give me your son,” Elijah replied. He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his bed.Then he cried out to the Lord,“ Lord my God, have you brought tragedy even on this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?”Then he stretched himself out on the boy three times and cried out to the Lord,“ Lord my God, let this boy’s life return to him!”The Lord heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived.Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. He gave him to his mother and said,“ Look, your son is alive!”Then the woman said to Elijah,“ Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth.” (niv)

Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, (niv)

On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things the Lord had done for David and Solomon and for his people Israel. (niv)

Whoever heard me spoke well of me, and those who saw me commended me,because I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist them.The one who was dying blessed me; I made the widow’s heart sing.I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban.I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame.I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger.I broke the fangs of the wicked and snatched the victims from their teeth.“ I thought,‘ I will die in my own house, my days as numerous as the grains of sand.My roots will reach to the water, and the dew will lie all night on my branches.My glory will not fade; the bow will be ever new in my hand.’ (niv)

So David and the elders of Israel and the commanders of units of a thousand went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-Edom, with rejoicing.Because God had helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord, seven bulls and seven rams were sacrificed.Now David was clothed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and as were the musicians, and Kenaniah, who was in charge of the singing of the choirs. David also wore a linen ephod.So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouts, with the sounding of rams’ horns and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and harps. See, my father, look at this piece of your robe in my hand! I cut off the corner of your robe but did not kill you. See that there is nothing in my hand to indicate that I am guilty of wrongdoing or rebellion. I have not wronged you, but you are hunting me down to take my life. (niv)

Then David said to the whole assembly,“ Praise the Lord your God.” So they all praised the Lord, the God of their fathers; they bowed down, prostrating themselves before the Lord and the king.The next day they made sacrifices to the Lord and presented burnt offerings to him: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams and a thousand male lambs, together with their drink offerings, and other sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.They ate and drank with great joy in the presence of the Lord that day. Then they acknowledged Solomon son of David as king a second time, anointing him before the Lord to be ruler and Zadok to be priest. (niv)

When Mordecai left the king’s presence, he was wearing royal garments of blue and white, a large crown of gold and a purple robe of fine linen. And the city of Susa held a joyous celebration.For the Jews it was a time of happiness and joy, gladness and honor.In every province and in every city to which the edict of the king came, there was joy and gladness among the Jews, with feasting and celebrating. And many people of other nationalities became Jews because fear of the Jews had seized them. (niv)

Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites, who showed good understanding of the service of the Lord. For the seven days they ate their assigned portion and offered fellowship offerings and praised the Lord, the God of their ancestors.The whole assembly then agreed to celebrate the festival seven more days; so for another seven days they celebrated joyfully.Hezekiah king of Judah provided a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep and goats for the assembly, and the officials provided them with a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep and goats. A great number of priests consecrated themselves.The entire assembly of Judah rejoiced, along with the priests and Levites and all who had assembled from Israel, including the foreigners who had come from Israel and also those who resided in Judah.There was great joy in Jerusalem, for since the days of Solomon son of David king of Israel there had been nothing like this in Jerusalem.The priests and the Levites stood to bless the people, and God heard them, for their prayer reached heaven, his holy dwelling place. Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a son of the king, Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the Lord had hidden them. (niv)
