被之以水。有如褞袍。厥水滔滔。淹彼岧嶢。

You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.

You, Lord, covered it with the oceans like a blanket. The waters covered the mountains.

You clothed the earth with floods of water, water that covered even the mountains.

For this they willfully forget that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water by the word of God,

The earth was formless and empty. There was evening and there was morning, a second day.God said,“ Let the waters under the sky be gathered together to one place, and let the dry land appear;” and it was so.God called the dry land“ earth”, and the gathering together of the waters he called“ seas”. God saw that it was good.
