When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place.

When I was in great trouble, I cried out to the Lord. He answered me and set me free from my trouble.

But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.

I took my troubles to the Lord; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer.

“ Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.

Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow.Then I called on the name of the Lord:“ Please, Lord, save me!”

“ No!” Peter declared emphatically.“ Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!” And all the others vowed the same.They went to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said,“ Sit here while I go and pray.”He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed.He told them,“ My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by.“ Abba, Father,” he cried out,“ everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

“ Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.

David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the Lord his God.Then he said to Abiathar the priest,“ Bring me the ephod!” So Abiathar brought it.Then David asked the Lord,“ Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the Lord told him,“ Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!”

You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place.

Then Jacob prayed,“ O God of my grandfather Abraham, and God of my father, Isaac— O Lord, you told me,‘ Return to your own land and to your relatives.’ And you promised me,‘ I will treat you kindly.’I am not worthy of all the unfailing love and faithfulness you have shown to me, your servant. When I left home and crossed the Jordan River, I owned nothing except a walking stick. Now my household fills two large camps!O Lord, please rescue me from the hand of my brother, Esau. I am afraid that he is coming to attack me, along with my wives and children.

When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven, but my soul was not comforted.

Jacob was terrified at the news. He divided his household, along with the flocks and herds and camels, into two groups.
