摩西秉性溫柔、勝於天下。

遴選大闢為僕、不使守群畜、牧牝羊、俾牧上帝之選民、即雅各家以色列族兮。大闢竭其心志、盡其慧思、訓導之、治理之兮。

我聽爾命、為民之牧、斯職不敢速棄、民遭患難、非我所欲、我所言者、惟爾使之、爾所知也。

長兄以利押聞大闢與眾言、怒曰、爾至此曷故、羊遺於野、為數無幾、孰牧之乎。爾心驕意頑、我知之矣、汝來特觀戰耳。大闢曰、我何所為、我豈非奉命而來乎。

奧哉、上帝何智慧之大乎、其法不可測、其蹤不可追、

以色列族當曰、遇有仇敵、怒而攻予、如耶和華不加眷祐、則予早被生吞兮、

則離掃羅側、歸伯利恆、牧父之羊。

遣使者告耶西曰大闢已沾我恩、容侍我側。

心勿驕奢、藐視同儕、勿違誡命、勿偏於左、勿偏於右、則可享遐齡、爰及子孫、於以色列族中。

僕如是以告。大闢曰、我素貧乏、為人藐視、為王之壻、豈易易哉、

昆弟同居、日相敦睦、盡美盡善兮。

一僕曰、我素知伯利恆人耶西之子、善鼓琴、英武善戰、中藏智慧、丰采甚都、為耶和華所佑。
