They will serve as signs for festivals and for days and years.They will be lights in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth.” And it was so.God made the two great lights— the greater light to have dominion over the day and the lesser light to have dominion over the night— as well as the stars.God placed them in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth,to dominate the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. The day is Yours, also the night; You established the moon and the sun.You set all the boundaries of the earth; You made summer and winter.

He made the moon to mark the festivals; the sun knows when to set.

When you look to the heavens and see the sun, moon, and stars— all the array of heaven— do not be led astray to bow down and worship them. The Lord your God has provided them for all people everywhere under heaven.
