上帝歟、尚其為我折中、辨屈於不虔之國、援我於詭譎不義之人兮、

民俱不仁、詭譎殘賊兮、予望上帝、伸我冤而援手兮、

求天主在不仁不義之民中、為我伸冤、拯救我脫離奸詐邪惡之人、

何群逆之詭譎兮。惟殘害之為務。求主一測予之中情兮。吾固不與彼同度。主其伸予之冤兮。辨予之誣。

Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked.

My God, when you hand down your decision, let it be in my favor. Stand up for me against an unfaithful nation. Save me from those lying and sinful people.

O Lord, oppose those who oppose me. Fight those who fight against me.

Declare me not guilty, O Lord my God, for you give justice. Don’t let my enemies laugh about me in my troubles.

The Lord judges the nations. Declare me righteous, O Lord, for I am innocent, O Most High!

You will destroy those who tell lies. The Lord detests murderers and deceivers.

When someone told David that his adviser Ahithophel was now backing Absalom, David prayed,“ O Lord, let Ahithophel give Absalom foolish advice!”

For their Redeemer is strong; he himself will bring their charges against you.

It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall.

For the Lord is their defender. He will ruin anyone who ruins them.

I will be patient as the Lord punishes me, for I have sinned against him. But after that, he will take up my case and give me justice for all I have suffered from my enemies. The Lord will bring me into the light, and I will see his righteousness.

My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of cruel oppressors.

My conscience is clear, but that doesn’t prove I’m right. It is the Lord himself who will examine me and decide.

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

Then Absalom turned to Ahithophel and asked him,“ What should I do next?”Ahithophel told him,“ Go and sleep with your father’s concubines, for he has left them here to look after the palace. Then all Israel will know that you have insulted your father beyond hope of reconciliation, and they will throw their support to you.”So they set up a tent on the palace roof where everyone could see it, and Absalom went in and had sex with his father’s concubines.Absalom followed Ahithophel’s advice, just as David had done. For every word Ahithophel spoke seemed as wise as though it had come directly from the mouth of God.Now Ahithophel urged Absalom,“ Let me choose 12,000 men to start out after David tonight.I will catch up with him while he is weary and discouraged. He and his troops will panic, and everyone will run away. Then I will kill only the king,and I will bring all the people back to you as a bride returns to her husband. After all, it is only one man’s life that you seek. Then you will be at peace with all the people.”This plan seemed good to Absalom and to all the elders of Israel.
