角鳴愈久、聲愈宏遠、摩西禱告、上帝應之以聲。

其時耶和華明其自尊而以色列族與之爭、故稱斯水曰、米利巴。○

患難之際、禱告於我、我爾援、爾我頌兮、

相去伊邇、以色列族見追將及、震驚特甚、呼籲耶和華、

歷年既久、埃及王薨、以色列族因服役良苦、太息號呼、聲聞於上帝。

昧爽火雲若柱、耶和華於其中俯視埃及營、亂其行伍、

其論利未則曰、願敬虔者得爾烏陵土明、昔在馬撒、爾嘗試之、在米利巴水、爾嘗爭之、

上帝曰、彼愛余、我拯救之、彼崇余、我振興之兮、彼禱余、我垂聽之、彼遭難、我眷祐之、以手援之、俾得尊榮兮、

是日耶和華拯以色列族、脫於埃及人手、埃及人之屍浮於海濱。以色列人目擊之。耶和華以大能降罰於埃及人、以色列族見而寅畏、篤信耶和華、亦信其僕摩西。

昔在米利巴、爾曹逆我命、故我賜以色列人之地、亞倫不得入、必終於斯、而返其本。

民與摩西爭曰、盍予我水。摩西曰、奚與我爭、奚試耶和華乎。民渴甚、怨摩西曰、奚導我出埃及、使我與子及畜燥渴以死。摩西籲耶和華曰、斯民幾欲以石擊我、將若何。耶和華曰、爾執擊河之杖、率以色列長老、為民先導。我立於何烈磐上、爾至時當擊斯磐、水由之出、使民得飲、摩西行是、以色列長老目擊之。以色列人爭摩西而試耶和華、曰、不識耶和華果在我中否。故摩西稱其地曰馬撒、亦曰米利巴、

民見雷迅電閃、角鳴烟障、則畏避遙立、謂摩西曰、汝與我言、我則聽從、如上帝與我言、我恐死亡。摩西曰、勿懼、蓋上帝降臨、試於爾眾、俾爾敬畏、毋蹈愆尤。於是民遙立、而摩西至上帝所、幽深玄遠之處。○
