蓋既昧於天主之義、故惟求自立其義、而不服膺天主之義矣。

因为不知道神的义，想要立自己的义，就不服神的义了。

Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.

They didn’t know that God’s power makes people right with himself. They tried to get right with God in their own way. They didn’t do it in God’s way.

For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.

For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law.

Since they are ignorant of the righteousness of God and attempted to establish their own righteousness, they have not submitted to God’s righteousness.

For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.

For being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

Because they disregarded the righteousness from God and attempted to establish their own righteousness, they have not submitted themselves to God’s righteousness.

耶穌曰：『爾曹希俗取容、矯義人前、而天主固洞悉爾心。應知人之所貴、正天主之所賤也。

而與之合為一體。蓋予自身了無仁義、律法亦不足為恃、惟天主為仁義之泉源、而所以致之者、則惟信仰基督而已矣。

爾自謂富有、綽有餘裕、而無所欠缺；殊不知爾實為百無聊賴、貧窮不堪、盲而裸者。吾勸爾向我購置百煉之金、俾成真富；純白之衣、用掩爾羞；傅目之膏、以啟爾視。

夫以毫無罪孽之基督、天主竟使其為吾人之故、成為罪孽、亦欲令吾人因基督之功、而成天主之正義云耳。

有人自矜其義、目無他人、耶穌設喻以警之曰：『曩有二人、偕登聖殿祈禱；一為法利塞人、一為稅吏。法利塞昂立默念、曰：「謝主俾我異若眾！眾或貪污、或犯義、或奸淫、謝主俾我異斯稅吏！我每週守齋二次、所得什一以獻。」

蓋天主之正義、已藉福音而啟示矣。此正義乃肇於信德、而成於信德者也。經曰：『惟義者憑信德而生、』此之謂也。

經生又強辯曰：『誰為吾鄰？』

蓋因一人之逆、而眾皆獲罪；亦因一人之順、而眾皆成義也。

天主之正義、惟憑信仰耶穌基督、而加於篤信者之身；無偏無倚、一視同仁。

經綸固炳煥。高誼益可佩。巍巍宇宙宰。誰堪與比擬。

知罪者、以若輩不予信也；知義者、以予歸父而爾不復睹予也；

耶穌基督之僕兼宗徒、西門、伯鐸祿、致書於因我天主救主耶穌基督之仁義而與我輩一體共承無上之寶信者曰：

於此吾人尚有何說？異邦之人、未曾求義、竟因信而得義矣。義塞人求義於律法之中、而終未之得也。何以故？以其求之不以信、而以法耳。

於是天主之正義、昌明於斯世。是天主使吾人信耶穌而成義、亦所以自彰其義也。

因自反曰：「父家多少傭工、皆得飽食而有餘、而吾將為他鄉之餓殍矣、吾其急起歸家、而稟父曰：「父乎、兒獲罪於天、有忝所生、今而後、不堪稱為爾子、待我如傭、足矣。」乃起而歸父、相距尚遙、父已瞥見、頓觸慈心、趨而迓之、抱其頸而吻焉。子曰：「父乎、兒獲罪於天、有忝所生、而今而後、不堪稱為爾子矣。」

口述爾之仁。及爾神奇事。救恩一何富。亹亹不勝紀。功德見神力。仁義為微旨。

不寧惟是、凡承受割禮者、即有遵行全部律法之義務。爾既欲求義於律法之中、則與基督絕緣、而自置於恩寵之外矣。
