蓋徒恃遵行律法、無人能稱義於天主之前；惟因法而知罪耳。

Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.

So no one will be considered right with God by obeying the law. Instead, the law makes us more aware of our sin.

For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.

For no one will be justified in his sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin comes through the law.

because by the works of the Law none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes knowledge of sin.

Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you. (niv)

You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.And the scripture was fulfilled that says,“ Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (niv)

If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? (niv)
