何時視為義、受割禮之後乎、抑受割禮之前乎、非受割禮之後、乃受割禮之前、

試問其若之何而成義耶？在受割之後乎？抑在受割之前乎？曰：不在受割之後、而在受割之前也。

Under what circumstances was it credited? Was it after he was circumcised, or before? It was not after, but before!

But how did this happen? Was he counted as righteous only after he was circumcised, or was it before he was circumcised? Clearly, God accepted Abraham before he was circumcised!

How then was it credited? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised;

How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised.

How then was it reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision:

In what way then was it credited— while he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while he was circumcised, but uncircumcised.

How then was it credited to him? Was he circumcised at the time, or not? No, he was not circumcised but uncircumcised!

This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. (niv)

When Abram was ninety- nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said,“ I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. (niv)

Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised.Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commands is what counts. (niv)

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar;so she said to Abram,“ The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.” Abram agreed to what Sarai said.So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife.
