波阿斯對路得說：「女兒啊，好好聽我說！不要到別人的田裡去撿拾麥穗，也不要離開這裡，要在這裡緊跟著我的使女們。

娜娥米對她的兒媳婦說：「願他蒙耶和華祝福！耶和華的慈愛沒有離開活人和死人。」娜娥米又對她說：「那個人是我們的親戚，是我們的一位有贖回權的近親。」摩押女子路得說：「他還對我說：『你要緊跟著我的僕人們，直到他們收完我所有的莊稼。』」娜娥米對她的兒媳婦路得說：「我的女兒啊，這樣就好！你與他的使女們一同出去，就不會在別人的田裡受人欺負。」於是，路得就緊跟著波阿斯的使女們撿拾麥穗，直到大麥收割和小麥收割都結束了。路得一直與她的婆婆住在一起。

娜娥米有一個親人，是她丈夫以利米勒家族中有勢力的財主，名叫波阿斯。
