大能者啊，願你的大腿邊佩刀，帶着你的尊榮威嚴！

你不怕黑夜中的恐怖，白日間的飛箭；

那我們就不該睡着、像其餘的人一樣了；卻要儆醒着、冷靜戒備着。因為睡着的人是夜裏睡，醉酒的人是夜裏醉。但我們呢、我們既是屬於白晝的，就該冷靜戒備着，穿上了信與愛做胸甲，又戴上了得救之盼望當做頭盔。

此外又拿起了信仰的盾牌；用這個就能撲滅那邪惡者一切燒𤏲的箭。你們要把救恩的頭盔和聖靈的寶劍、就是上帝的話語、接過來。藉着各樣的禱告和祈求、時時刻刻用心靈祈禱；以十二分的恆心專在這事上覺醒着，為眾聖徒祈求，

我永恆主是顧守葡萄園的；我時刻澆灌它；因恐怕它會受損害，我便晝夜顧守它。

於是我們這樣作工；我們一半拿着槍，從天色一亮、直到星宿出現的時候。那時我也對人民說：『各人和他的僮僕都要在耶路撒冷城中過夜，好在夜間可以為我們做看守的人，白晝也可以作工。
