不過，要以溫柔、敬畏的心回答。要存無虧的良心，使你們在何事上被毀謗，就在何事上使那些凌辱你們在基督裏有好品行的人自覺羞愧。

我又說：「你們做的這事不對！你們行事不是應該敬畏我們的上帝，免得列國我們的仇敵毀謗我們嗎？

你們無論做甚麼事，都不要發怨言起爭論，好使你們無可指責，誠實無偽，在這彎曲悖謬的世代作上帝無瑕疵的兒女。你們在這世代中要像明光照耀，將生命的道顯明出來，使我在基督的日子得以誇耀我沒有白跑，也沒有徒勞。

所以，我希望年輕的寡婦嫁人，生養兒女，治理家務，不讓敵人有辱罵的把柄，

若有人傳別的教義，不符合我們主耶穌基督純正的話語與合乎敬虔的教導，

若有人不聽從我們這信上的話，要把他記下，不和他交往，使他自覺羞愧；

耶穌說這些話，他的敵人都慚愧了；所有的人因他所做一切榮耀的事都很歡喜。

耶穌見他回答得有智慧，就對他說：「你離上帝的國不遠了。」從此以後，沒有人敢再問他甚麼。

那文士對耶穌說：「好，老師，你說得對，上帝是一位，除了他以外，再沒有別的了；

有一個文士來，聽見他們的辯論，知道耶穌回答得好，就問他說：「誡命中哪一條是第一呢？」

你們因耶和華言語而戰兢的人哪，當聽他的話：「你們的弟兄，就是恨惡你們，因我名趕出你們的，曾說：『願耶和華彰顯榮耀，好讓我們看見你們的喜樂。』但蒙羞的終究是他們！

耶穌對他們說：「凱撒的歸凱撒；上帝的歸上帝。」他們對他非常驚訝。
