Amos 1:3-5
Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have threshed Gilead with threshing sledges of iron.So I will send a fire upon the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.I will break the gate-bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of Aven, and him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Syria shall go into exile to Kir,” says the Lord.

Concerning Damascus:“ Hamath and Arpad are confounded, for they have heard bad news; they melt in fear, they are troubled like the sea that cannot be quiet.Damascus has become feeble, she turned to flee, and panic seized her; anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in labor. How is the famous city not forsaken, the city of my joy? Therefore her young men shall fall in her squares, and all her soldiers shall be destroyed in that day, declares the Lord of hosts. And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.”

Jeremiah 23:33-38
“ When one of this people, or a prophet or a priest asks you,‘ What is the burden of the Lord?’ you shall say to them,‘ You are the burden, and I will cast you off, declares the Lord.’And as for the prophet, priest, or one of the people who says,‘ The burden of the Lord,’ I will punish that man and his household. Thus shall you say, every one to his neighbor and every one to his brother,‘ What has the Lord answered?’ or‘ What has the Lord spoken?’But‘ the burden of the Lord’ you shall mention no more, for the burden is every man’s own word, and you pervert the words of the living God, the Lord of hosts, our God.Thus you shall say to the prophet,‘ What has the Lord answered you?’ or‘ What has the Lord spoken?’But if you say,‘ The burden of the Lord,’ thus says the Lord,‘ Because you have said these words,“ The burden of the Lord,” when I sent to you, saying,“ You shall not say,‘ The burden of the Lord,’”

Isaiah 45:20-22
“ Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge who carry about their wooden idols, and keep on praying to a god that cannot save.Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together! Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me.“ Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.

Isaiah 17:1-3
An oracle concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins. The cities of Aroer are deserted; they will be for flocks, which will lie down, and none will make them afraid. The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus; and the remnant of Syria will be like the glory of the children of Israel, declares the Lord of hosts.

Isaiah 9:8-21
The Lord has sent a word against Jacob, and it will fall on Israel;and all the people will know, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in pride and in arrogance of heart:“ The bricks have fallen, but we will build with dressed stones; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will put cedars in their place.”But the Lord raises the adversaries of Rezin against him, and stirs up his enemies. The Syrians on the east and the Philistines on the west devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still. The people did not turn to him who struck them, nor inquire of the Lord of hosts. So the Lord cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed in one day—the elder and honored man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail;for those who guide this people have been leading them astray, and those who are guided by them are swallowed up.Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over their young men, and has no compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is godless and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still. For wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briers and thorns; it kindles the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke.Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts the land is scorched, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no one spares another. They slice meat on the right, but are still hungry, and they devour on the left, but are not satisfied; each devours the flesh of his own arm,Manasseh devours Ephraim, and Ephraim devours Manasseh; together they are against Judah. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.
