  • Psalms 106:20 - Thus they exchanged their glory for an image of a bull that eats grass.
  • Psalms 94:7 - They say, “Yah will not see, neither will Jacob’s God consider.”
  • Psalms 94:8 - Consider, you senseless among the people; you fools, when will you be wise?
  • Psalms 94:9 - He who implanted the ear, won’t he hear? He who formed the eye, won’t he see?
  • Romans 1:20 - For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse.
  • Romans 1:21 - Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.
  • Romans 1:22 - Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
  • Romans 1:23 - and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, four-footed animals, and creeping things.
  • Isaiah 44:9 - Everyone who makes a carved image is vain. The things that they delight in will not profit. Their own witnesses don’t see, nor know, that they may be disappointed.
  • Isaiah 44:10 - Who has fashioned a god, or molds an image that is profitable for nothing?
  • Isaiah 44:11 - Behold, all his fellows will be disappointed; and the workmen are mere men. Let them all be gathered together. Let them stand up. They will fear. They will be put to shame together.
  • Isaiah 44:12 - The blacksmith takes an ax, works in the coals, fashions it with hammers, and works it with his strong arm. He is hungry, and his strength fails; he drinks no water, and is faint.
  • Isaiah 44:13 - The carpenter stretches out a line. He marks it out with a pencil. He shapes it with planes. He marks it out with compasses, and shapes it like the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to reside in a house.
  • Isaiah 44:14 - He cuts down cedars for himself, and takes the cypress and the oak, and strengthens for himself one among the trees of the forest. He plants a cypress tree, and the rain nourishes it.
  • Isaiah 44:15 - Then it will be for a man to burn; and he takes some of it, and warms himself. Yes, he burns it, and bakes bread. Yes, he makes a god, and worships it; he makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.
  • Isaiah 44:16 - He burns part of it in the fire. With part of it, he eats meat. He roasts a roast, and is satisfied. Yes, he warms himself, and says, “Aha! I am warm. I have seen the fire.”
  • Isaiah 44:17 - The rest of it he makes into a god, even his engraved image. He bows down to it and worships, and prays to it, and says, “Deliver me; for you are my god!”
  • Isaiah 44:18 - They don’t know, neither do they consider: for he has shut their eyes, that they can’t see; and their hearts, that they can’t understand.
  • Isaiah 44:19 - No one thinks, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, “I have burned part of it in the fire. Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals. I have roasted meat and eaten it. Shall I make the rest of it into an abomination? Shall I bow down to a tree trunk?”
  • Isaiah 44:20 - He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside; and he can’t deliver his soul, nor say, “Isn’t there a lie in my right hand?”
  • Isaiah 40:12 - Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and marked off the sky with his span, and calculated the dust of the earth in a measuring basket, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
  • Isaiah 40:13 - Who has directed Yahweh’s Spirit, or has taught him as his counselor?
  • Isaiah 40:14 - Who did he take counsel with, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding?
  • Isaiah 40:15 - Behold, the nations are like a drop in a bucket, and are regarded as a speck of dust on a balance. Behold, he lifts up the islands like a very little thing.
  • Isaiah 40:16 - Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor its animals sufficient for a burnt offering.
  • Isaiah 40:17 - All the nations are like nothing before him. They are regarded by him as less than nothing, and vanity.
  • Isaiah 40:18 - To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to him?
  • Isaiah 40:19 - A workman has cast an image, and the goldsmith overlays it with gold, and casts silver chains for it.
  • Isaiah 40:20 - He who is too impoverished for such an offering chooses a tree that will not rot. He seeks a skillful workman to set up a carved image for him that will not be moved.
  • Jeremiah 10:4 - They deck it with silver and with gold. They fasten it with nails and with hammers, so that it can’t move.
  • Jeremiah 10:5 - They are like a palm tree, of turned work, and don’t speak. They must be carried, because they can’t move. Don’t be afraid of them; for they can’t do evil, neither is it in them to do good.”
  • Jeremiah 10:6 - There is no one like you, Yahweh. You are great, and your name is great in might.
  • Jeremiah 10:7 - Who shouldn’t fear you, King of the nations? For it belongs to you. Because among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is no one like you.
  • Jeremiah 10:8 - But they are together brutish and foolish, instructed by idols! It is just wood.
  • Jeremiah 10:9 - There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the engraver and of the hands of the goldsmith. Their clothing is blue and purple. They are all the work of skillful men.
  • Jeremiah 10:10 - But Yahweh is the true God. He is the living God, and an everlasting King. At his wrath, the earth trembles. The nations aren’t able to withstand his indignation.
  • Isaiah 46:5 - “To whom will you compare me, and consider my equal, and compare me, as if we were the same?
  • Isaiah 46:6 - Some pour out gold from the bag, and weigh silver in the balance. They hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god. They fall down— yes, they worship.
  • Habakkuk 2:19 - Woe to him who says to the wood, ‘Awake!’ or to the mute stone, ‘Arise!’ Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it.
  • Habakkuk 2:20 - But Yahweh is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him!”
  • Exodus 20:4 - “You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
  • Psalms 115:4 - Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
  • Psalms 115:5 - They have mouths, but they don’t speak. They have eyes, but they don’t see.
  • Psalms 115:6 - They have ears, but they don’t hear. They have noses, but they don’t smell.
  • Psalms 115:7 - They have hands, but they don’t feel. They have feet, but they don’t walk, neither do they speak through their throat.
  • Psalms 115:8 - Those who make them will be like them; yes, everyone who trusts in them.
  • Isaiah 40:25 - “To whom then will you liken me? Who is my equal?” says the Holy One.
