  • Luke 18:10 - “Two men went up into the temple [enclosure] to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
  • Luke 18:11 - The Pharisee stood [ostentatiously] and began praying to himself [in a self-righteous way, saying]: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of men—swindlers, unjust (dishonest), adulterers—or even like this tax collector.

  • Deuteronomy 11:27 - the blessing, if you listen to and obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I am commanding you today;

  • Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God [that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  • Romans 4:15 - For the Law results in [God’s] wrath [against sin], but where there is no law, there is no violation [of it either].
  • Ezekiel 18:4 - Behold (pay close attention), all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die.
  • Galatians 2:16 - yet we know that a man is not justified [and placed in right standing with God] by works of the Law, but [only] through faith in [God’s beloved Son,] Christ Jesus. And even we [as Jews] have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the Law. By observing the Law no one will ever be justified [declared free of the guilt of sin and its penalty].
  • James 2:9 - But if you show partiality [prejudice, favoritism], you are committing sin and are convicted by the Law as offenders.
  • James 2:10 - For whoever keeps the whole Law but stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of [breaking] all of it.
  • James 2:11 - For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you murder, you have become guilty of transgressing the [entire] Law.
  • Jeremiah 11:3 - Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, “Cursed is the man who does not heed the words of this covenant
  • Romans 3:19 - Now we know that whatever the Law [of Moses] says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that [the excuses of] every mouth may be silenced [from protesting] and that all the world may be held accountable to God [and subject to His judgment].
  • Romans 3:20 - For no person will be justified [freed of guilt and declared righteous] in His sight by [trying to do] the works of the Law. For through the Law we become conscious of sin [and the recognition of sin directs us toward repentance, but provides no remedy for sin].
  • Romans 8:7 - the mind of the flesh [with its sinful pursuits] is actively hostile to God. It does not submit itself to God’s law, since it cannot,
  • Deuteronomy 27:26 - ‘Cursed is he who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them [keeping them, taking them to heart as the rule of his life].’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’
