  • Nehemiah 13:27 - Shall we then listen to you and do all this great evil and act treacherously against our God by marrying foreign women?”
  • Nehemiah 13:28 - And one of the sons of Jehoiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was the son-in-law of Sanballat the Horonite. Therefore I chased him from me.
  • Judges 10:6 - The people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. And they forsook the Lord and did not serve him.
  • Judges 10:7 - So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites,
  • Judges 10:8 - and they crushed and oppressed the people of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
  • Judges 10:9 - And the Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed.
  • Judges 10:10 - And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against you, because we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals.”
  • Judges 10:11 - And the Lord said to the people of Israel, “Did I not save you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the Ammonites and from the Philistines?
  • Judges 10:12 - The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you, and you cried out to me, and I saved you out of their hand.
  • Judges 10:13 - Yet you have forsaken me and served other gods; therefore I will save you no more.
  • Judges 10:14 - Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.”
  • Judges 10:15 - And the people of Israel said to the Lord, “We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to you. Only please deliver us this day.”
  • Judges 10:16 - So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord, and he became impatient over the misery of Israel.
  • Judges 10:17 - Then the Ammonites were called to arms, and they encamped in Gilead. And the people of Israel came together, and they encamped at Mizpah.
  • Judges 10:18 - And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said one to another, “Who is the man who will begin to fight against the Ammonites? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
  • Isaiah 11:14 - But they shall swoop down on the shoulder of the Philistines in the west, and together they shall plunder the people of the east. They shall put out their hand against Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites shall obey them.
  • 2 Samuel 10:1 - After this the king of the Ammonites died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.
  • 2 Samuel 10:2 - And David said, “I will deal loyally with Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father dealt loyally with me.” So David sent by his servants to console him concerning his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the Ammonites.
  • 2 Samuel 10:3 - But the princes of the Ammonites said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think, because David has sent comforters to you, that he is honoring your father? Has not David sent his servants to you to search the city and to spy it out and to overthrow it?”
  • 2 Samuel 10:4 - So Hanun took David’s servants and shaved off half the beard of each and cut off their garments in the middle, at their hips, and sent them away.
  • 2 Samuel 10:5 - When it was told David, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, “Remain at Jericho until your beards have grown and then return.”
  • 2 Samuel 10:6 - When the Ammonites saw that they had become a stench to David, the Ammonites sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, 20,000 foot soldiers, and the king of Maacah with 1,000 men, and the men of Tob, 12,000 men.
  • 2 Samuel 10:7 - And when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the host of the mighty men.
  • 2 Samuel 10:8 - And the Ammonites came out and drew up in battle array at the entrance of the gate, and the Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the open country.
  • 2 Samuel 10:9 - When Joab saw that the battle was set against him both in front and in the rear, he chose some of the best men of Israel and arrayed them against the Syrians.
  • 2 Samuel 10:10 - The rest of his men he put in the charge of Abishai his brother, and he arrayed them against the Ammonites.
  • 2 Samuel 10:11 - And he said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me, but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.
  • 2 Samuel 10:12 - Be of good courage, and let us be courageous for our people, and for the cities of our God, and may the Lord do what seems good to him.”
  • 2 Samuel 10:13 - So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.
  • 2 Samuel 10:14 - And when the Ammonites saw that the Syrians fled, they likewise fled before Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab returned from fighting against the Ammonites and came to Jerusalem.
  • 2 Samuel 10:15 - But when the Syrians saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.
  • 2 Samuel 10:16 - And Hadadezer sent and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the Euphrates. They came to Helam, with Shobach the commander of the army of Hadadezer at their head.
  • 2 Samuel 10:17 - And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together and crossed the Jordan and came to Helam. The Syrians arrayed themselves against David and fought with him.
  • 2 Samuel 10:18 - And the Syrians fled before Israel, and David killed of the Syrians the men of 700 chariots, and 40,000 horsemen, and wounded Shobach the commander of their army, so that he died there.
  • 2 Samuel 10:19 - And when all the kings who were servants of Hadadezer saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and became subject to them. So the Syrians were afraid to save the Ammonites anymore.
  • Deuteronomy 2:9 - And the Lord said to me, ‘Do not harass Moab or contend with them in battle, for I will not give you any of their land for a possession, because I have given Ar to the people of Lot for a possession.’
  • Nehemiah 13:1 - On that day they read from the Book of Moses in the hearing of the people. And in it was found written that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever enter the assembly of God,
  • Nehemiah 13:2 - for they did not meet the people of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them—yet our God turned the curse into a blessing.
  • Nehemiah 13:3 - As soon as the people heard the law, they separated from Israel all those of foreign descent.
  • Deuteronomy 23:3 - “No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the Lord. Even to the tenth generation, none of them may enter the assembly of the Lord forever,
  • 1 Samuel 11:1 - Then Nahash the Ammonite went up and besieged Jabesh-gilead, and all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, “Make a treaty with us, and we will serve you.”
  • 1 Samuel 11:2 - But Nahash the Ammonite said to them, “On this condition I will make a treaty with you, that I gouge out all your right eyes, and thus bring disgrace on all Israel.”
  • 1 Samuel 11:3 - The elders of Jabesh said to him, “Give us seven days’ respite that we may send messengers through all the territory of Israel. Then, if there is no one to save us, we will give ourselves up to you.”
  • 1 Samuel 11:4 - When the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul, they reported the matter in the ears of the people, and all the people wept aloud.
  • 1 Samuel 11:5 - Now, behold, Saul was coming from the field behind the oxen. And Saul said, “What is wrong with the people, that they are weeping?” So they told him the news of the men of Jabesh.
  • 1 Samuel 11:6 - And the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled.
  • 1 Samuel 11:7 - He took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hand of the messengers, saying, “Whoever does not come out after Saul and Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen!” Then the dread of the Lord fell upon the people, and they came out as one man.
  • 1 Samuel 11:8 - When he mustered them at Bezek, the people of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
  • 1 Samuel 11:9 - And they said to the messengers who had come, “Thus shall you say to the men of Jabesh-gilead: ‘Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have salvation.’” When the messengers came and told the men of Jabesh, they were glad.
  • 1 Samuel 11:10 - Therefore the men of Jabesh said, “Tomorrow we will give ourselves up to you, and you may do to us whatever seems good to you.”
  • 1 Samuel 11:11 - And the next day Saul put the people in three companies. And they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch and struck down the Ammonites until the heat of the day. And those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
  • 1 Samuel 11:12 - Then the people said to Samuel, “Who is it that said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, that we may put them to death.”
  • 1 Samuel 11:13 - But Saul said, “Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has worked salvation in Israel.”
  • 1 Samuel 11:14 - Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go to Gilgal and there renew the kingdom.”
  • 1 Samuel 11:15 - So all the people went to Gilgal, and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal. There they sacrificed peace offerings before the Lord, and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
  • Psalms 83:4 - They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
  • Psalms 83:5 - For they conspire with one accord; against you they make a covenant—
  • Psalms 83:6 - the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites,
  • Psalms 83:7 - Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
  • Psalms 83:8 - Asshur also has joined them; they are the strong arm of the children of Lot. Selah
  • Deuteronomy 2:19 - And when you approach the territory of the people of Ammon, do not harass them or contend with them, for I will not give you any of the land of the people of Ammon as a possession, because I have given it to the sons of Lot for a possession.’
