  • Judges 20:30 - They went up against the Benjamites on the third day and took up positions against Gibeah as they had done before.
  • Judges 20:31 - The Benjamites came out to meet them and were drawn away from the city. They began to inflict casualties on the Israelites as before, so that about thirty men fell in the open field and on the roads—the one leading to Bethel and the other to Gibeah.
  • Judges 20:32 - While the Benjamites were saying, “We are defeating them as before,” the Israelites were saying, “Let’s retreat and draw them away from the city to the roads.”
  • Judges 20:33 - All the men of Israel moved from their places and took up positions at Baal Tamar, and the Israelite ambush charged out of its place on the west of Gibeah.
  • Psalm 39:6 - “Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be.
  • Jeremiah 17:11 - Like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay are those who gain riches by unjust means. When their lives are half gone, their riches will desert them, and in the end they will prove to be fools.
  • Joshua 8:12 - Joshua had taken about five thousand men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, to the west of the city.
  • Joshua 8:19 - As soon as he did this, the men in the ambush rose quickly from their position and rushed forward. They entered the city and captured it and quickly set it on fire.
  • Joshua 8:14 - When the king of Ai saw this, he and all the men of the city hurried out early in the morning to meet Israel in battle at a certain place overlooking the Arabah. But he did not know that an ambush had been set against him behind the city.
  • Joshua 10:1 - Now Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had taken Ai and totally destroyed it, doing to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king, and that the people of Gibeon had made a treaty of peace with Israel and had become their allies.
  • Deuteronomy 3:2 - The Lord said to me, “Do not be afraid of him, for I have delivered him into your hands, along with his whole army and his land. Do to him what you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon.”

  • Joshua 8:27 - But Israel did carry off for themselves the livestock and plunder of this city, as the Lord had instructed Joshua.
  • Joshua 8:28 - So Joshua burned Ai and made it a permanent heap of ruins, a desolate place to this day.
  • Joshua 8:29 - He impaled the body of the king of Ai on a pole and left it there until evening. At sunset, Joshua ordered them to take the body from the pole and throw it down at the entrance of the city gate. And they raised a large pile of rocks over it, which remains to this day.
  • Luke 12:20 - “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
