And don’t think you can pull rank by claiming Abraham as father. Being a descendant of Abraham is neither here nor there. Descendants of Abraham are a dime a dozen. What counts is your life. Is it green and flourishing? Because if it’s deadwood, it goes on the fire.

  • Hebrews 11:7 - By faith [with confidence in God and His word] Noah, being warned by God about events not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his family. By this [act of obedience] he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness which comes by faith.
  • Genesis 3:15 - And I will put enmity (open hostility) Between you and the woman, And between your seed (offspring) and her Seed; He shall [fatally] bruise your head, And you shall [only] bruise His heel.”
  • Matthew 16:6 - Jesus said to them, “Watch out and be on your guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
  • Romans 5:9 - Therefore, since we have now been justified [declared free of the guilt of sin] by His blood, [how much more certain is it that] we will be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
  • Jeremiah 6:10 - To whom shall I (Jeremiah) speak and give warning That they may hear? Behold, their ears are closed [absolutely deaf to God] And they cannot listen. Behold, the word of the Lord has become a reprimand and an object of scorn to them; They have no delight in it.
  • Matthew 23:13 - “But woe (judgment is coming) to you, [self-righteous] scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven in front of people; for you do not enter yourselves, nor do you allow those who are [in the process of] entering to do so.
  • Matthew 23:14 - [Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you swallow up widows’ houses, and to cover it up you make long prayers; therefore you will receive the greater condemnation.]
  • Matthew 23:15 - “Woe to you, [self-righteous] scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel over sea and land to make a single proselyte (convert to Judaism), and when he becomes a convert, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.
  • Matthew 23:16 - “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears [an oath] by the sanctuary of the temple, that is nothing (non-binding); but whoever swears [an oath] by the gold of the temple is obligated [as a debtor to fulfill his vow and keep his promise].’
  • Matthew 23:17 - You fools and blind men! Which is more important, the gold or the sanctuary of the temple that sanctified the gold?
  • Matthew 23:18 - And [you scribes and Pharisees say], ‘Whoever swears [an oath] by the altar, that is nothing (non-binding), but whoever swears [an oath] by the offering on it, he is obligated [as a debtor to fulfill his vow and keep his promise].’
  • Matthew 23:19 - You [spiritually] blind men, which is more important, the offering, or the altar that sanctifies the offering?
  • Matthew 23:20 - Therefore, whoever swears [an oath] by the altar, swears both by it and by everything [offered] on it.
  • Matthew 23:21 - And whoever swears [an oath] by the sanctuary of the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwells within it.
  • Matthew 23:22 - And whoever swears [an oath] by heaven, swears both by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it.
  • Matthew 23:23 - “Woe to you, [self-righteous] scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you give a tenth (tithe) of your mint and dill and cumin [focusing on minor matters], and have neglected the weightier [more important moral and spiritual] provisions of the Law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the [primary] things you ought to have done without neglecting the others.
  • Matthew 23:24 - You [spiritually] blind guides, who strain out a gnat [consuming yourselves with miniscule matters] and swallow a camel [ignoring and violating God’s precepts]!
  • Matthew 23:25 - “Woe to you, [self-righteous] scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of extortion and robbery and self-indulgence (unrestrained greed).
  • Matthew 23:26 - You [spiritually] blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the plate [examine and change your inner self to conform to God’s precepts], so that the outside [your public life and deeds] may be clean also.
  • Matthew 23:27 - “Woe to you, [self-righteous] scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which look beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean.
  • Matthew 23:28 - So you, also, outwardly seem to be just and upright to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
  • Matthew 16:11 - How is it that you fail to understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
  • Matthew 16:12 - Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the [false] teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
  • Jeremiah 51:6 - Flee out of Babylon, Let every one of you save his life! Do not be destroyed in her punishment, For this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance; He is going to pay her what she has earned.
  • Matthew 22:23 - On that day some Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection [of the dead], came to Him and asked Him a question,
  • Romans 1:18 - For [God does not overlook sin and] the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who in their wickedness suppress and stifle the truth,
  • 1 Thessalonians 1:10 - and to [look forward and confidently] wait for [the coming of] His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus, who [personally] rescues us from the coming wrath [and draws us to Himself, granting us all the privileges and rewards of a new life with Him].
  • Matthew 12:34 - You brood of vipers, how can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.
  • Matthew 23:33 - You serpents, you spawn of vipers, how can you escape the penalty of hell?
