  • Matthew 13:7 - Other seed fell among thorns. The thorns grew up and crowded out the plants.
  • Matthew 13:8 - Still other seed fell on good soil. It produced a crop 100, 60 or 30 times more than what was planted.
  • Matthew 13:9 - Whoever has ears should listen.”
  • Matthew 13:10 - The disciples came to him. They asked, “Why do you use stories when you speak to the people?”
  • Matthew 13:11 - He replied, “Because you have been given the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven. It has not been given to outsiders.
  • Matthew 13:12 - Everyone who has this kind of knowledge will be given more knowledge. In fact, they will have very much. If anyone doesn’t have this kind of knowledge, even what little they have will be taken away from them.
  • Matthew 13:13 - Here is why I use stories when I speak to the people. I say, “They look, but they don’t really see. They listen, but they don’t really hear or understand.
  • Matthew 13:14 - In them the words of the prophet Isaiah come true. He said, “ ‘You will hear but never understand. You will see but never know what you are seeing.
  • Matthew 13:15 - The hearts of these people have become stubborn. They can barely hear with their ears. They have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes. They might hear with their ears. They might understand with their hearts. They might turn to the Lord, and then he would heal them.’ ( Isaiah 6:9 , 10 )
  • Luke 8:4 - A large crowd gathered together. People came to Jesus from town after town. As they did, he told a story. He said,
  • Luke 8:5 - “A farmer went out to plant his seed. He scattered the seed on the ground. Some fell on a path. People walked on it, and the birds ate it up.
  • Luke 8:6 - Some seed fell on rocky ground. When it grew, the plants dried up because they had no water.
  • Luke 8:7 - Other seed fell among thorns. The thorns grew up with it and crowded out the plants.
  • Luke 8:8 - Still other seed fell on good soil. It grew up and produced a crop 100 times more than the farmer planted.” When Jesus said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears should listen.”
  • Luke 8:9 - His disciples asked him what the story meant.
  • Luke 8:10 - He said, “You have been given the chance to understand the secrets of God’s kingdom. But to outsiders I speak by using stories. In that way, “ ‘They see, but they will not know what they are seeing. They hear, but they will not understand what they are hearing.’ ( Isaiah 6:9 )
  • Luke 5:1 - One day Jesus was standing by the Sea of Galilee. The people crowded around him and listened to the word of God.
  • Luke 5:2 - Jesus saw two boats at the edge of the water. They had been left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets.
  • Luke 5:3 - He got into the boat that belonged to Simon. Jesus asked him to go out a little way from shore. Then he sat down in the boat and taught the people.
  • Mark 2:13 - Once again Jesus went out beside the Sea of Galilee. A large crowd came to him. He began to teach them.
