有神人靠近，對以色列王說：「耶和華如此說：『亞蘭人既說我－耶和華是山神，不是平原之神，我必將這一大羣人全都交在你手中，你們就知道我是耶和華。』」以色列人與亞蘭人相對安營七日，到第七日兩軍開戰。那一日以色列人殺了亞蘭的十萬步兵，其餘的都逃向亞弗，到了城裏，城牆倒塌，壓死了剩下的二萬七千人。便‧哈達也逃入城內，藏在嚴密的內室裏。

跟從省長的年輕人，和跟隨他們的軍兵，都出了城，各人遇見敵人就擊殺。亞蘭人逃跑，以色列人追趕他們；亞蘭王便‧哈達騎着馬和騎兵一同逃跑。以色列王出城攻擊馬和戰車，大大擊殺亞蘭人。

耶和華－以色列的神曾立鹽約，將以色列國永遠賜給大衛和他的子孫，你們不知道嗎？但大衛兒子所羅門的臣僕、尼八的兒子耶羅波安起來背叛他的主人。有些無賴的歹徒聚集跟從他，逞強攻擊所羅門的兒子羅波安；那時羅波安還年輕，心志軟弱，不能抵擋他們。「現在你們說要抗拒大衛子孫手下所治理的耶和華的國，你們的人數眾多，你們那裏又有耶羅波安為你們所造當作神明的金牛犢。你們不是驅逐耶和華的祭司亞倫的後裔和利未人嗎？不是照着外邦人的惡俗為自己立祭司嗎？無論何人牽一頭公牛犢、七隻公綿羊將自己分別出來，就可作虛無神明的祭司。至於我們，耶和華是我們的神，我們並沒有離棄他。我們有事奉耶和華的祭司，都是亞倫的後裔，並有利未人各盡其職。他們每日早晚向耶和華獻燔祭，燒芬芳的香，又在純金的供桌上擺供餅，每晚點燃金燈臺上的燈盞，因為我們遵守耶和華－我們神的命令，但你們卻離棄了他。看哪，率領我們的是神，又有他的祭司拿號向你們吹出響聲。以色列人哪，不要與耶和華－你們列祖的神爭戰，因你們必不能得勝。」耶羅波安卻在猶大人的後頭設伏兵。這樣，以色列人在猶大人的前頭，伏兵在猶大人的後頭。猶大人轉過來，看哪，前後都有戰事，就呼求耶和華，祭司也吹號。於是猶大人吶喊。猶大人吶喊的時候，神就擊打耶羅波安和以色列眾人，使他們敗在亞比雅與猶大人面前。以色列人在猶大人面前逃跑，神將他們交在猶大人手裏。

你的壯士為何被掃除呢？他們站立不住，因為耶和華驅逐他們；他使多人絆跌，彼此撞倒。他們說：「起來，讓我們回到自己的同胞、回到自己的出生地去，好躲避欺壓的刀劍。」

看哪，一個先知靠近以色列王亞哈，說：「耶和華如此說：『這一大羣人你看見了嗎？看哪，今日我必把他們交在你手裏，你就知道我是耶和華。』」
