到了早晨，法老心里烦乱，就派人去把埃及所有的术士和智慧人都召了来；法老把自己的梦告诉他们，但是没有人能替法老解梦。

于是，法老也把智慧人和行法术的人召了来；他们本是埃及的术士，也用他们的巫术照样行了。

王大声呼叫，吩咐人把那些用法术的和迦勒底人，以及占星家都领进来；王对巴比伦的智慧人说：“谁能读这文字，又能向我解释它的意思，他必身穿紫袍，颈戴金链，在国中掌权，位列第三。”

于是王吩咐人把术士、用法术的、行邪术的和迦勒底人都召来，要他们把王的梦告诉王。他们来了，站在王面前。

我朝见耶和华，在至高的神面前叩拜，当献上什么呢？我朝见他的时候，当献上燔祭，当献上一岁的牛犊吗？耶和华喜悦千千的公羊，或是万万的油河吗？为我的过犯，我可以献上我的长子吗？为我的罪恶，献上我亲生的孩子吗？世人哪！耶和华已经指示你什么是善，他向你所要的又是什么；无非是要你行公义，好怜悯，谦虚谨慎与你的神同行。听啊！耶和华向这城呼叫，敬畏你的名就是智慧；支派和城里的会众啊！你们要听。

他就召集所有的祭司长和民间的经学家，问他们基督应该生在哪里。

继续使用你从幼年时就劳碌施行的符咒和许多的邪术吧！或者你可以得到益处，也许你能叫人战栗。你因你许多的计划而劳累；现在让那些划分天象的，观看星辰的，在月朔时说预言的，都站起来，拯救你脱离要临到你身上的事。

耶和华啊！你离弃了你的子民雅各家，是因为他们充满了东方的迷信，和占卜的人，像非利士人一样，并且与外族人击掌交易。
