在那些日子，希西家病得要死了。亚摩斯的儿子以赛亚先知来见他，对他说：“耶和华这样说：‘你要留遗命给你的家人，因为你将要死，不能再活了。’”他却转脸向墙，祷告耶和华说：“唉，耶和华啊！求你记念我曾怎样以真诚和完全的心在你面前行事为人，我所行的都是你看为善的事。”希西家就痛哭起来。以赛亚还没有出到中院，耶和华的话就临到他说：“你回去对我子民的君主希西家说：‘你祖大卫的神耶和华这样说：我听见了你的祷告，看见了你的眼泪。看哪，我必医治你，第三日你要上耶和华的殿。我必把十五年的寿命增添给你。我要拯救你和这城脱离亚述王的手，又要因我自己和我仆人大卫的缘故保护这城。’”以赛亚说：“取一片无花果饼来。”他们就取了来，把它贴在疮上。希西家就痊愈了。希西家对以赛亚说：“有什么征兆告诉我耶和华必医治我，第三日我能上耶和华的殿呢？”以赛亚说：“这就是耶和华给你的征兆，显明耶和华必成全他应许的这事：你要日影向前进十级或是倒退十级呢？”希西家说：“日影延伸十级容易；不，我要日影倒后十级。”以赛亚先知呼求耶和华，他就使日晷上的日影，就是在亚哈斯的日晷上已经下移的日影倒退了十级。

那时，希西家患了重病，快要死去。亚摩斯的儿子以赛亚先知来见他，对他说：“耶和华这样说：‘你要把你的家整顿妥当，因为你快要死去，不能存活。’”希西家就转脸向墙，对耶和华祷告、说：“耶和华啊！求你记念我在你面前怎样诚诚实实、以纯全的心来行事，又作你眼中看为善的事。”然后，希西家就痛哭起来。耶和华的话临到以赛亚说：“你去告诉希西家：‘耶和华你祖先大卫的神这样说：我听见了你的祷告，看见了你的眼泪；看哪！我必在你的寿数上加添十五年。我必救你和这城脱离亚述王的手；我必保护这城。’以下就是耶和华给你的兆头，为要证明耶和华必成全他所说过的。看哪！我要使亚哈斯日晷上那向前进的日影往后退十级。”于是那向前进的日影，果然在日晷上往后退了十级。

以赛亚说：“叫人拿一块无花果饼来，贴在疮上，王就必痊愈。”希西家问：“我能上耶和华的殿去，有什么兆头呢？”
