Dear friends, don’t be surprised when the fiery ordeal comes among you to test you, as if something unusual were happening to you.Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also rejoice with great joy when his glory is revealed.If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

Who can separate us from the love of Christ? And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance,endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope.This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

I have spent a night and a day in the open sea.On frequent journeys, I faced dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my own people, dangers from Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers at sea, and dangers among false brothers;toil and hardship, many sleepless nights, hunger and thirst, often without food, cold, and without clothing.Not to mention other things, there is the daily pressure on me: my concern for all the churches.Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?If boasting is necessary, I will boast about my weaknesses.

Instead, as God’s ministers, we commend ourselves in everything: by great endurance, by afflictions, by hardships, by difficulties,

The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected.

Then Saul said to his armor-bearer,“ Draw your sword and run me through with it, or these uncircumcised men will come and run me through and torture me!” But his armor-bearer would not do it because he was terrified. Then Saul took his sword and fell on it.
